While turning the pages of a historical epoch, the current course of politics is probably towards the recreation of archival mayhem. Calling for an open jihad is a deliberate attempt at anarchy. The face of West Bengal is trying to rejuvenate this violence and mayhem through “Direct Action Day”.
Mamata Banerjee’s jihad against BJP
The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given an outrageous remark against the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Her statement asserted that her party Trinamool Congress (TMC) will be assuming July 21 as “a day of jihad”. Mamata’s remarks came against the ruling party came when she was at a public gathering in Asansol.
It is also significant to note that Mamata Banerjee’s led Trinamool Congress (TMC) organizes a mass rally every year on July 21 to commemorate the 1993 Kolkata firing as Marty’s Day. The event is organized every year in memory of the 13 youth Congress workers who got killed in police firing when the Left Front was in power.
While referring to July 21, Martyr’s Day, she said, “July 21 is near and you know it is Shaheed Dibas. It is a day to declare ‘jihad’ against the BJP.”
While countering Mamata Banerjee over her inflammatory remarks, Amit Malviya, BJP’s IT cell in-charge tweeted that “Mamata Banerjee, sitting CM of Bengal, has declared 21Jul2022 as the day of “Jihad” against the BJP. Notwithstanding the fact that she is calling for violence against the people of Bengal, who believe in a different political ideology, the choice of words betrays a deranged mind.”

Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Governor of West Bengal wrote a letter to Mamata Banerjee asking her to withdraw the flamboyant remarks against the BJP. He said, “The statement has no place in a society governed by rule of law, and is least expected from one under constitutional oath to abide by it. Taking strong exception to this, have written to Hon’ble CM to withdraw the statement and respond. Declaring “Jihad” against a political party is constitutional anarchy and decimation of democracy that cannot be countenanced. Am sure wiser counsel will prevail & Hon’ble CM would regretfully withdraw the statement earliest. Such a pernicious stance is antithetical to democracy.”
The West Bengal’s Chief Minister has a plenitude of alleged cases against the BJP. Her continuous efforts to defeat the leading political party in the general elections seem to be trembling. Thus, she is desperate to find an exact point of target.
This time, her remarks can be considered a mirror image of the “Direct Action Day” but with her “Khela” twist in it. Mamata Banerjee’s open call of jihad against the BJP is an attempt to enrage the Indian population against their ruling party.
What is a Direct Action plan?
The 1946 Calcutta killings caused a nationwide communal riot called the Direct Action plan. The 1946 incident resulted in large-scale violence irrupted between Hindus and Muslims in Calcutta. The event was so plaintive that it was named “The Week of Long Knives”.
In 1946, a general strike or hartal was announced on 16 August terming it the ‘Direct Action Day’. It was to claim the demands for a separate land for Muslims out of the colonial land of India. Through this day, Muhammad Ali Jinnah said that he want either a divided India or a destroyed India.
The Direct Action Day can be associated with the recent remarks by the Chief Minister of West Bengal, who is hell-bent on exasperating the people of India against the saffron party. These blatant remarks can cause the Indian arena under “The Direct Action Day 2.0”.

Mamata’s calling for Jihad against the BJP is an attempt to defame a political party that has always been dedicated to strengthening the roots of Indian culture and tradition.
Jihad is a broad term that is mainly against the propagation of any religion. In the name of establishing God’s rule, the jihadists have contributed towards the palpable violence.
The opposition in the Indian politics anyhow wants to end the current regime that is governing India. They want to commemorate their indulgence in politics by hook or by crook. But reason for their continuous setbacks comes due to their propaganda against the majority community of India. And the same tactics are being tried by Mamata Banerjee as well. Her open call for Jihad against BJP is likely to form “The Direct Action Plan 2.0”.
