Dear unscientific humanity grads, why shouldn’t scientific ISRO follow a scientific panchang?

You will agree when I tell you that there are only a few actors in Bollywood who despite being a part of the glam industry, do not forget their culture, tradition and do not shy away from displaying nationalism. Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein fame actor Ranganathan Madhavan is one of them. He wears his culture and nationalism on his sleeves. This is what makes him an easy target of liberals and ‘modern intellectuals.’

ISRO used ‘Panchang, for Mars Mission: R Madhavan

Madhavan has recently announced his directorial debut Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, which will soon hit the theatres. During a promotional event for his upcoming film, the actor was speaking about the ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission. He stated, “Indian rockets did not have 3 engines (solid, liquid and cryogenic) that help Western rockets propel themselves into Mars orbit. But since Indians lacked that, they used all the information in the Panchangam (Hindu almanac).”

He added, “It has the celestial map with all information on the various planets, their gravitation pulls, sun’s flares deflection etc, all calculated perfectly 1000s of years ago and hence the micro-second [of] the launch was calculated using this Panchangam info.”

Madhavan receiving flak from unscientific humanity grads

Dare anyone talks about the Hindu culture and praise anything about it, the liberal intelligentsia soon turns into a monster to swallow the particular individual. Madhavan, for the man he is, believes in taking pride in being a Hindu and only stated the truth.

But few unscientific humanity grads did not like the statement of Madhavan and began trolling him.

One user wrote, “Science is not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s ok not to know Science. But it’s better to keep your bloody mouth shut when you’ve no idea as to how things actually work; instead of quoting some WhatsApp stuff and making a mockery of yourself #Madhavan #Rocketry #MarsMission (sic).”

Another said, “To call actor Madhavan’s claims on India’s Mars Orbiter Mission ‘stupid’ will be an understatement; the amount of bullshit he blurted out in a couple of minutes, with terrifying confidence and utter disregard for facts, is of gargantuan proportions. #Madhavan #Mangalyaan (sic).”

A Twitter user also mocked him saying, madhavan is the best example for “he’s cute until he opens his mouth”

While some called him a Whatsapp uncle, others went on to “correct” his mistakes.

Dear unscientific humanity grads, Panchang is scientific

Trust me, those trying to project themselves as intellectuals by mocking Madhavan, are nothing but unscientific humanity grads who do not even have an iota of knowledge about panchang and its importance.

Mind you, the Hindu calendar is considered to be the most scientific calendar. While the Gregorian calendar is mainly based on the motion of the Sun, the Hindu calendar is based on both the moon and the sun. It is based on the Chandrasaur system which makes it more scientific than others.

The lunar cycle lasts for 29.53 days. And every Hindu month is precisely equal to this time period. Every month in the Hindu calendar has equal number of days – 29.53. In the Hindu calendar, the number of days in a year amount to 354.36. However, every third year, 33 days (11 extra days * 3) are added by creating one extra lunar month of 29 days.

Read more: The need of re-adopting the Indian Calendar

Those who are not well-versed with the Panchang have no clue about the intricacies which every Hindu year brings along with it.

You see, the Hindu calendar is more precise and scientific than the Gregorian calendar. ISRO, too, is an organization based on scientific research about space. The question is, why ISRO cannot use a Panchang for its experiments and would go for other calendars which are nowhere around it?

Well, I have no clue to make it more impactful and would definitely want these unscientific humanity grads to come out and answer for the same.
