It is not the weapon that decides the fate of any war but the man behind that weapon that matters. Indian Armed forces are battle-hardened units that have proven their might in several wars. But all those forces that don’t reform and upgrade themselves become redundant. So, it is always important to keep the cycle of reform and up-gradation in the armed forces running continuously. The recent Agnipath scheme will prove to be a game-changer in not only bringing transformational reforms to the Armed Forces but also a behavioural change in the society.
Agnipath Scheme will benefit the nation
In an effort to transform the Human Resources Management of the Armed Forces, the centre announced the Agnipath scheme for the recruitment of youth in the Armed Forces. The Agnipath Scheme will be voluntarily available for all youth in the age group of 17.5 to 21 years. So, the scheme will drastically reduce the average age of the armed forces from 32 years currently to an expected age of 26 years. This will result in more agile and fitter personnel in the armed forces further strengthening the security of the nation.

The scheme will maintain a fine balance between youth and experienced Armed Force personnel. Further, the short military service will result in the inculcation of patriotism, teamwork, enhancement of physical fitness, ingrained loyalty, and universal availability of youth in critical situations like internal, external, or natural threats.
Agnipath is a win for the youth of the country
Apart from the opportunity to serve in the most decorated profession, the youth will get a very good remuneration during the service. The starting salary will be around Rs 30000 per month which will go up to Rs 40000 by the end of service. After the end of four years of service, around 11.71 lakhs as Seva Nidhi Package will be provided to the candidate with interest accrued.
Further, many states and organisations are coming up with their own benefits for the Agniveers. Evidently, the UP government has announced that it will prioritise Agniveers in the jobs of UP Police and allied forces.

Similar announcements have been made by the Home Ministry. It has said that the Agniveers will be given priority in recruitment of CAPFs and Assam Rifles. More states are coming up with such kind of priority initiatives for the Agniveers. A senior government official also explained that these Agniveers will be given all the help they need in their further studies or opening an entrepreneur. The official said, ” Those wishing to be entrepreneurs — they will get a financial package and bank loan scheme. Those wishing to study further will be given a class 12 equivalent certificate and bridging course for further studies. Those wishing to obtain jobs will be given priority in CAPFs and state police. Several avenues are also being opened up for them in other sectors”.
Further, the experience of the army will provide a great platform for youth to learn skills like self-defense, sports, discipline, time management, and physical well-being.
But for a large democratic country like India, bringing major reforms has always been tough. The ongoing protest against the scheme is a mix of both the lack of credible information regarding the scheme and political disinformation to reap political benefit out of it. So the unfounded and misinformed protest will die down when the proper information is disseminated properly.
So all in all the scheme will prove to be a major game-changer that will only add on the effectiveness of the armed forces and the ethical upliftment of the society.
