Navjot Singh Sidhu is the biggest political gold digger

Navjot Singh Sidhu, the man responsible for the embarrassing defeat of the Congress party in Punjab is again in news, and this time also for a similar reason, his blatant opportunism. Politics is a game of opportunity, but a politician like Sidhu erupts when opportunism becomes bigger than ideology.

Sidhu: No more in Congress’ good books

Navjot Singh Sidhu, the cricketer turned politician doesn’t seem to see an eye to eye with the grand old party. The feud grew deeper after Sidhu tried to portray himself above the party. Congress party had formed a disciplinary committee to decide the course of action against Sidhu.

Last month, Punjab Congress-in-charge Harish Chaudhary wrote to Sonia Gandhi seeking disciplinary action against ex- Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. The letter conveyed that despite being forbidden, Sidhu was relentlessly criticising the previous Congress government of the state. And the letter mentioned Sidhu’s meetings with expelled leaders of the party like MLAs Surjit Singh Dhiman and Kewal Dhillon.

Sidhu also draws flaks for meeting hyped poll strategist Prashant Kishor on the same day he declined Congress’ offer to join the party.

Sidhu’s opportunism knows no boundaries

Congress lost the crucial battle of Punjab, and the onus is on one person state head Navjot Singh Sidhu. After snatching one of the Congress’ said bastions, Navjot Singh Sidhu is out to do more blunders. Currently, after coming all out against Congress, Sidhu is looking at some kind of opportunity to hop on.

Navjot Singh Sidhu quit Cricket in the year 1999. This move suddenly reduced Sidhu, the celebrated cricketer to a nobody. He tried to bounce back by becoming a cricket commentator.

Sidhu kicked off his political career in 2004, by winning the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency on a BJP ticket. He managed to save his constituency in 2009. In 2016, Sidhu became a member of the Upper House, that is, Rajya Sabha, and this year was tragic for the cricketer turned politician. In 2016 itself, he resigned from Rajya Sabha and floated his own party Aawaaz-e-Punjab. He later dissolved his party in the same year to join Congress. He contested Amritsar East Vidhan Sabha seat on a Congress ticket and registered victory. He was assigned a cabinet berth from which he later resigned and grabbed the post of Punjab Congress President. He contested the assembly polls in 2022 again just to lose the Amritsar seat thus diminishing his stature to a new low.

Navjot Singh Sidhu: A politician Punjab doesn’t need

Punjab is a state that is surrounded by multiple problems like low-income, drugs, and debt among others. And now, unfortunately, Punjab will have to deal with another problem named Sidhu’s opportunism. The political opportunism of Sidhu only creates problems for the people of the state, as the likes of him keep hopping party after party to reap personal benefits and the public is left on their own.

After joining two political biggies BJP and Congress (which was at once), and forming his own party, it was speculated that Sidhu will plunge the Congress party into another crisis and join the Aam Aadmi Party.

Sidhu has been praising the AAP for a long time and also buttering CM Mann. But he cancelled all the speculations of joining the AAP by criticising the AAP’s Punjab Police’s action on BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga. Sidhu called out AAP supremo as well as Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann for playing political vendetta and using the state Police to settle personal scores.

Navjot Singh Sidhu has done irreparable damage to the grand old party in Punjab. He is someone who can catastrophe anything for his political benefits. And a state like Punjab surely doesn’t need someone whose opportunism will cost the state in the near future.
