Shafi Parambil got his start in politics by joining the Kerala Students Union. He was the KSU unit office bearer and the college union’s general secretary while in college. In 2007, Parambil was appointed State General Secretary, and in 2009, he was elected State President.
In 2011, 2016, and 2021, he was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly three times. Shafi Parambil was elected general secretary of the Indian Youth Congress in 2017 but resigned a year later.
Shafi Parambil is now the Indian Youth Congress’s state president. In the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election, he defeated E. Sreedharan by 3480 votes in an election that received widespread attention.
