Mudhsuden Singh “Monty” Panesar is a former English international cricketer who was born on April 25, 1982. Panesar, a left-arm spinner, made his Test debut against India in Nagpur in 2006 and his One Day International debut for England in 2007. However, his play with Sussex County Cricket Club improved, and he was returned to the squad for the 2010–11 Ashes series, although not appearing in any of the matches. Panesar was called up for the series against Pakistan in the UAE after taking 69 wickets in the 2011 county season he played in the second Test, his first Test appearance in over two and a half years.
Panesar also featured in three Test matches in India in 2012 before filling in as lead spinner for the injured Graeme Swann during England’s tour of New Zealand, where he took just five wickets for 70 runs each.
He last played in an international series against Australia in the 2013–14 Ashes, however he has not confirmed his retirement since then. After spending the winter as a club cricketer in Sydney, Panesar was hired by Cricket Australia as a spin-bowling consultant for the tour of India in January 2017.

Paramjit Singh, Panesar’s father, is an architect and real estate entrepreneur who, with Panesar’s mother Gursharan Kaur, moved from Punjab, India to Luton, England, in 1979, where they now reside and where Monty Panesar was born. Esha Kaur Panesar, Panesar’s younger sister, and Charanjit Kaur Panesar, Panesar’s older sister. Panesar is a Luton Town and Arsenal supporter.
Panesar is a Sikh who was born in Luton to Indian parents and wears a black patka (a smaller version of the complete Sikh turban) while playing and training. While watching him play, several of his followers have imitated him by donning patkas and artificial beards.
