Misbah-ul-Haq is a retired international cricketer of Pakistan and was one of the greatest cricketers in the world and later served as head coach of the Pakistani Cricket team. He came to prominence after his 2007 World Twenty20 and scored over 4000 runs in test series as a captain of the Pakistan team.
Misbah-ul-Haq is a former head coach and top selector of the Pakistan national team, having captained the country in Test cricket and One Day Internationals (ODIs).
Personal life of Misbah-ul-Haq
Misbah grew up in the Pakistani Punjab town of Mianwali. Abdul Qudoos Niazi, Misbah’s father, was a school principal who died while Misbah was a youngster. Misbah is from a Pashtun Niazi family, and his distant cousin, Pakistan cricketer and current Prime Minister Imran Khan, is his uncle.
Playing Style
Misbah, a late bloomer, was a middle-order batsman known for his calm demeanor with the bat but also possessing the capacity to play aggressive big shots when needed. Misbah has the record for the quickest fifty in Test cricket, as well as the fastest Test hundred and the most career ODI runs without a century.
Education
Misbah-ul-Haq graduated from the University of Management and Technology in Lahore, Punjab, with an MBA in Human Resource Management. Misbah used to play tape ball cricket for his hometown, but his parents insisted on him getting a solid education, so he went to Faisalabad and earned a BSc. After that, he went to the University of Management and Technology to get his MBA.
IPL Career of Misbah-ul-Haq
Misbah-ul-Haq was the first Pakistani player to play in the Indian T20 League, but due to political tensions between the two nations, Pakistani players were unable to compete in subsequent editions. Misbah’s fitness improved as he grew older, and he maintained it throughout. Misbah averaged more than 60 in Tests and more than 50 in ODIs in 2011. Misbah, an MBA graduate, was a standout in 2013, when Pakistan’s batting difficulties were at an all-time high, hitting over 1000 runs in the calendar year.
Retirement from all forms
On May 10, 2017, he played his final international match in Roseau, against the West Indies. In the first innings, he hit his 39th Test fifty but was bowled for just two runs in the second. Pakistan, on the other hand, won his final match as captain by 101 runs, clinching the series 2–1. The victory was also notable for being the first-ever series triumph against the West Indies in the West Indies.
Coaching Career
Misbah was hired as the Pakistan cricket team’s head coach and the chief selector on a three-year deal on September 4, 2019. This is the first time in Pakistan cricket history that someone has held both posts at the same time. Misbah-ul-Haq got off to a good start, winning the One Day International Series 2–0. Then, in the T20 series, Sri Lanka shocked everyone by whitewashing Pakistan. Following that, he led the squad to Australia, where they were defeated 2–0 in the test series.
He quit as Pakistan’s national cricket team’s top selector in October 2020. Pakistan was defeated 2–0 by New Zealand on his maiden visit as only the Head Coach. Following that, he guided Pakistan to their first Test series victory against South Africa since 2003. Misbah-ul-Haq resigned as Pakistan’s head coach on September 6, 2021.

Achievements of Misbah-ul-Haq
Without ever reaching a century in ODI cricket, he holds the record for most runs scored (5,122).
In 2013, he was the leading run-scorer in ODIs.
With 26 Test victories, he is Pakistan’s most successful Test captain.
Since Geoffrey Boycott in 1981, he is the first batter above the age of 41 to score a Test century.
