Sidhu was a known comedy reality show judge, a cricket commentator & expert, and a lawmaker – many of us dream of the career profile. Being an opportunist, Sidhu ended up digging his own grave and lost everything he had.
With the AAP sweeping the Punjab Assembly polls, the Congress party has been thrown out of power. Sidhu too lost from the high-profile Amritsar East seat and thus, was asked to resign from the post of state president by the high command. Now, he looks to revive his career by buttering up Aam Aadmi Party.
Sidhu’s attempt to revive his career
Ever since the humiliating defeat of the age-old party in Punjab, the speculations that Sidhu’s days are numbered in Congress have set the political corridors abuzz. He, along with four other state presidents, has been asked to resign from the post. Sidhu, however, is an opportunist man with selfish political ambitions. Thus, he probably would want to take an exit from Congress and join Aam Aadmi Party. And, he has already begun buttering up Kejriwal led AAP.
In such a move, he took to Twitter to congratulate Bhagwant Mann – the new Chief Minister of Punjab. He tweeted, “The happiest man is the one from whom no one expects. Bhagwant Mann unfurls a new anti-Mafia era in Punjab with a mountain of expectations …hopes he rises to the occasion, brings back Punjab on the revival path with pro-people policies … best always.”

AAP and Sidhu: a love affair
Navjot Singh Sidhu is the kind of politician that the Aam Aadmi Party is always keen to hire given his credentials on various issues that would appeal to the party’s voter base, especially the extremist segments of Sikh society who demand Khalistan and actively seek support from Pakistan. Moreover, Sidhu is allegedly an opportunist, just like Arvind Kejriwal. The kind of politics that Sidhu plays and the ideology of AAP are the same. Thus, he will be a perfect fit for the party.

Notably, when Sidhu resigned as Punjab Congress chief in October last year, the speculations that he will plunge the Congress party into another crisis and join Aam Aadmi Party.
Moreover, in July 2021, disgruntled Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu heaped praise on the AAP for “recognising his work and vision.” Since the remarks came amidst infighting in the Punjab Congress, it made people assume that he could join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
He had tweeted, “Our opposition AAP has always recognised my vision and work for Punjab. Be it before 2017- Beadbi, Drugs, Farmers Issues, Corruption & Power Crisis faced by People of Punjab raised by me or today as I present ‘Punjab Model’. It is clear they know – who is really fighting for Punjab.”

Meanwhile, in November 2021, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had also praised Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu for “raising public welfare issues”. He also stated that “Sidhu faced suppression from both the present and former chief ministers of his party in the state.”
So, here is the story. Congress leader Sidhu has always been eyeing CM’s chair and thus, he had left no stone unturned to oust Amarinder from the party and he was successful. However, his dreams shattered when Channi was made the Chief Minister and what came as a worse development for him; the party lost recently concluded assembly polls. Since, after his resignation as the state president, his days in Congress are numbered. Given the earlier instances, it can be assumed that Sidhu will end up leaving the Congress party to join the newly emerged power in Punjab and that is Aam Aadmi Party.
