What does a person who has realized that he is going to face a humiliating loss? Well, he attempts to rationalize the loss in their head. In such a move, he either tries to please people or defend himself.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra – a Congress leader and the general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh, is no different. Her recent statement makes it quite evident that she has conceded the defeat and thus, she is fighting tooth and nail to compensate for the failure.
Has Priyanka conceded defeat?
Despite Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s sustained struggle to help Congress emerge as a competitor in Uttar Pradesh, the aged-old party does not even seem to be in the race. And the Congress leaders probably know that the fight for votes between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party has squeezed them out of the race.
While addressing an election rally in Ghazipur that goes to the polls on March 7, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi seemingly admitted that the Congress party will lose the elections. She stated, “You (public) are being misled through the issue of caste and religion. You will face the maximum loss with the political leaders incurring hardly losing anything. They just want to come back to power by keeping the people poor.”
In a bid to appease people, she took a pledge to not leave UP regardless of the poll results. She asserted, “This is the land of my forefathers, and their blood has nurtured its soil. Unless true and correct politics emerges in the state, I will continue to fight. I have decided that whatever is the result, I am not going to leave you. I will fight along with you, for you.”
She went on to say, “Three years ago when I came to UP as the in-charge of UP, some senior leaders of the party, who have now left the party, came to me and told me that I should leave UP as I will get nothing here. They told me that there is only a struggle here. The Congress does not even exist here. You speak to the party leadership and tell them to send you somewhere else.”
Uttar Pradesh is a mere dream for Congress
Earlier as reported by TFI, the state consists of 25-27% general castes (including 10% Brahmins and 7% Thakurs), 39%-40% OBCs (including 7-9% Yadavs and 4% Nishads), around 20% SCs and STs (including 10% Jatavs), and 16-19% Muslim population.

Notably, the percentages known for each caste are not definite as there has been no caste census.
BJP is majorly focusing on its traditional upper caste votes and non-Yadav vote bank and will rightfully grab their votes like it has always been. Moreover, Prime Minister Modi being the tallest Dalit leader of the nation will lead the BJP to encash a huge number of Dalit votes in the state.
As far as Muslim votes are considered, Muslims are a dominant vote bank in many districts of Western Uttar Pradesh. They have historically voted for the Samajwadi Party or the RLD. However, they probably will switch to AIMIM and BSP as Akhilesh Yadav has turned ‘Icchadari Hindu’ for this year’s UP elections.
Congress does not hold power in any of the communities in the state which is evident from the fact that the party won only seven seats in the 2017 Rajya Sabha elections.
Despite Priyanka Gandhi’s effort to resurrect the party’s position in the state, it is nowhere in the fight to sweep the state. Priyanka Gandhi, however, is aware of the same and thus has conceded the defeat a few days before the election results.
