Boria Majumdar Short Biography
Together with Sachin, Majumdar co-wrote the autobiography of former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Play Your Way. Majumdar was a Rhodes scholar from 1999–2000 and in October 2000 he completed his PhD in the social history of Indian cricket from St John’s College, Oxford University. Boria Majumdar is also the co-chair of a committee of the Ministry of Information Technology that is trying to use technology to improve Indian sports.
Books by Boria Majumdar
Mazumdar completed his PhD in March 2004, and his thesis was accepted for publication in the Oxford monographs series. Twenty-Two Yards to Freedom: A Social History of Indian Cricket was published in India by Penguin-Viking in December 2004 and received positive reviews.
He and former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar co-wrote Sachin’s autobiography, Playing It My Way.
His second book, Eleven Gods and a Billion Indians: The On and Off the Field Story of Cricket in India and Beyond, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2018.

Positions
He sits on various government committees including the governing body of the Sports Authority of India. In 2013, Boria Majumdar served on the committee drafting the Indian National Sports Bill. Having been involved in international sports between 2000 and 2017, Boria Majumdar is currently a Consulting Editor for the India Today Group’s Sports magazine and a Senior Fellow at the University of Central Lancashire.

Education
In 1997, Boria Majumdar received his B.A. in History from Presidency College, University of Calcutta. He completed his M.A. in Modern History at the same university in 1999. In 1999–2000, he was a Rhodes Scholar, and in October 2000, he began a DPhil on the Social History of Indian Cricket at St John’s College, University of Oxford.
In March 2004, Boria Majumdar finished his doctorate, and his thesis was nominated for publication in the Oxford monographs series. In December 2004, Penguin-Viking published it in India as Twenty-Two Yards to Freedom: A Social History of Indian Cricket, which received critical acclaim.
