On September 25, 2013, a fire broke out on the show’s sets at Goregaon’s Film City, causing the entire set to collapse and a loss of approximately Rs. 20 crore. Following the fire, two episodes of Bigg Boss were shot at Lonavla on Bigg Boss sets. The show became India’s highest-rated scripted TV drama in September 2013.

Contiloe Telefilms, which had previously produced the historical drama Jhansi Ki Rani on Zee TV, produced the show, which premiered on September 2, 2011. From 3 October 2011, the show was expanded to five days a week (Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm) due to its immediate success and popularity, with a TRP of more than 2.60.
