After nearly 3-decades of an active political career, Asaduddin Owaisi seems to have realised that he has lost his traction. This is the only explanation for his recent adherence to Hijab and Burqa.
Owaisi challenges authorities
On Sunday, 13th February, Asaduddin Owaisi was speaking at a campaign rally in Uttar Pradesh. However, soon Owaisi lost control of the context and instead of addressing concerns of local electorates, he started to invoke Karnataka’s Hijab controversy.

Challenging the authorities that nobody can stop a girl from wearing a Hijab, Owaisi said, “If a girl decides to wear Hijab and asks her parents to do so and when her parents allow her to wear it, who can stop her from wearing it? We shall see, Inshallah,”
Owaisi Twisting narratives in his favour
He even went to the extent of effectively claiming that those women who wear Hijab have a higher probability of becoming successful in their lives.
Declaring that one day a Hijab-wearing woman will become the Prime Minister of India, Owaisi said, “The girls will wear hijab, will wear Niqab and go to colleges and become doctors, collectors, SDMs and businessmen. You all keep in mind, perhaps when I am not alive, a girl wearing a hijab will become the prime minister of this country one day,”

Owaisi also twisted his rejection of Z+ security towards Hijab row. Claiming that a girl like Muskan needs security rather than him, Owaisi said, “I told in Parliament that Asaduddin does not need Z category security. Do something so that everyone is secure. And what is the point of giving Owaisi security if a girl like Muskan gets heckled? Agar Muskan ko khatra hai to Asad ko bhi khatra hai (If Muskan is in danger, then Asad is also under threat),”. Opposition jumps on to Hijab row
Recently, a Hijab row broke out in Karnataka, where a section of Muslim women are asking for removal of institutional dress code in favour of Hijab. While the matter is still under judicial scrutiny, various interest groups such as political parties like Congress, SP and AIMIM are baking their political bread on the systematic subjugation of Muslim women.
Priyanka Gandhi, a key member of oldest party in India went on to claim that Muslim women do not need to follow any institution’s dress code. Similarly, a female SP leader threatened to chop off the hands of anyone who fights for liberation of Muslim women.

Owaisi trying different tactics to gain favour in UP
Asaduddin has also jumped on the same boat. He has campaigned for many candidates in UP assembly elections. Owaisi must have observed the ground reality that the amount of work Yogi Adityanath has done is unmatchable in recent history. So, he deviates his election agenda from one topic to another. Apart from being a politician, Owaisi is a well-known lawyer and someone who is believed to be an authority by Muslims in aspects of their lives in India. However, his support for Hijab seems to be motivated towards gaining traction among radical Islamists in Uttar Pradesh rather than thinking of any good for women belonging to the Muslim community.
