A movie titled “Why I Killed Gandhi”, set to release on various OTT platforms on January 30, the anniversary of Mohandas Gandhi’s assassination has riled up the entire Congress machinery. The state unit of Maharashtra has gone rogue against its Maha Vikas Aghadi partner NCP, whose MP and actor Amol Kolhe is playing the lead role of Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse in the movie.

Requesting Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to ban the movie in Maharashtra, Congress state unit President Nana Patole said, “If you portray Gandhiji’s murderer as a hero, it is not acceptable. Our country is known for Gandhiji and his ideology. He is celebrated worldwide. Congress will oppose it. We will request Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray not to allow the film to be released in Maharashtra.”

Claiming to represent the rights of cinema workers, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) showed its hypocrisy by writing to PM Modi and demanding a ban on the movie.

The association said, “All Indian Cine Workers Association demands a complete ban on the movie Why I Killed Gandhi which is to be released on OTT Platform in India on January 30, 2022, as this movie glorifies Nathuram Godse the traitor and killer of the father of nation Mahatma Gandhiji. Gandhiji is someone who is admired by the entire INDIA and the world, Gandhiji’s Ideology is a symbol of Love and Sacrifice for each and every Indian.”

Sharad Pawar gives a nod to the movie

Meanwhile, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, antagonizing Congress, supported Amol Kolhe, saying the latter’s decision to act in the movie should be seen as an artist’s choice. Pawar said, “If he played that role, it doesn’t mean he subscribes to Godse’s ideology or views,”

It is pertinent to note that despite being in NCP and previously Shiv Sena, actor Amol Kolhe has played roles like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son Chhatrapati Sambhaji in the past on television series.

Thus, it doesn’t come as a surprise that he has taken up the challenging role of a complex personality. Although the movie completed production in 2017, it could not been released up until now.

Why eulogies Gandhi, if we are a mature democracy?

The biggest obstacle in the maturity of Indian democracy is manifested in how Mohandas Gandhi, “the father of the Nation” has been eulogised to a God-like status and beyond criticism. He epitomises our obsession with seeking ‘holy cows’ in the larger national perception and then marginalising anyone who dares to speak against such an individual. Therefore, despite all controversies surrounding Mohandas Gandhi, he has been essentially seen as infallible.

Gandhi’s role in the freedom movement has also been exaggerated to an unimaginable extent. While he is portrayed as the one who single-handedly led the freedom struggle, the fact remains that his campaign, or at least a substantial part thereof, was defeatist and lacked purpose.

While he continues to be hailed as the man who freed us from the British, factors like Bose-led Indian National Army’s role, the impact of World War II and the eventual decline of the British Empire have been traditionally ignored despite these factors being the immediate cause of Indian independence.

Let’s debate Nathuram Godse’s civilly

Despite all his shortcomings, and a range of personal and public controversies, Mahatma Gandhi has successfully remained the ‘holy cow’ of India, criticising who is seen as blasphemous. As a necessary corollary, his assassin, Nathuram Godse is constantly vilified.

The consequence is an immature democracy that gets uncomfortable when confronted with the question- Was Nathuram Godse a patriot? After all, the man was an ideologically driven assassin but could he be a terrorist? Was he an enemy of the Indian state?

The historical circumstances in the backdrop of a violent, reckless partition that witnessed crores of Indians die, through no fault of theirs, have often been ignored when judging Nathuram Godse’s side of the story. We cannot simply ignore who pushed the country into such turmoil and left innocent citizens of the country unprepared in the face of one of the most violent events in world history- the partition.

Congress and its entire existence have been built upon the name Gandhi. Thus, the party does not want any acceptance amongst the masses for Godse. A movie like “Why I Killed Gandhi” is aiming to tackle a sensitive topic and it has ruffled a few feathers in the Congress party.

We have been hearing about Gandhi’s stories for past 100 years and for once let citizens also hear Godse side of the story and let the citizens decide what they think. Why is Congress, Communist and all other left parties are stopping Godse’s side of the story? What are they trying hide from the people?

This movie must be released and all sides of the stories must be heard by the people of the country and let them make their informed conclusion. Even courts allows all parties including accused or culprits to tell their side of the story.

You don’t have to wait for the movie. Godse’s historically famous testimony to the court on why he killed Gandhi, in his own words, is there on YT and on many blogs. Reading about it will just give you goosebumps! It’s so painful to hear his perspective, I cannot even imagine what debilitating pain & suffering Hindus at the time underwent post partition!

In Democrasy we need to know the other side of story. Mahatma was great but there may be enough reason for Godse to eliminate him for his mistakes (We must Learn)

People should read the book and make up their own minds.

Mohan Karam Chand Gandhi was a British Agent and did all he could to keep Bharat as part of the British Empire.

He did not support any of the anti British movements of the rural people, but expected them to suffer the high taxes and loot by the British.

It is available for INR 50 on any footpath in any city.

Our country is not known as Gandhi’s ideology. Nana Patole do kaudi ka leader must understand that India’s ideology is Dharma. The Sanatan Supreme Dharma.nwe worship Shakti and not Weakness. You stupid Congressis and Gandhi have totally ruined this country and will break it into further pieces if let to make every one sing about Gandhi all the time. Let the old perverts pictures be on currency notes only. So, that he can be put in a blouse or be thrown upon girls in a dance bar. It befits that sick old man very well.

This is the Congress version of Fascism and Intolerance which we are seeing here. Banning this movie is unconstitutional as our Constitution guarantees us freedom of speech and expression. Nathuram Godse had the right to express himself, Congress doesnt have the right to ban it

Nathuram was GodSend to prevent further humiliation of Hindu Rashtra at the hands of this wily old man who had lost his mind completely. He had begun to go on a path, he imagined could make him younger, more energetic which was using forceful form of celibacy. His forced austerity, forced non violence, forced hypocrisy, forced judgement, and forced leadership proved to be very costly for India. Not only independence got delayed but in the process we lost many a great leaders, lands to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kashmir and most devastating of all, we lost the opportunity in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to become the first PM of free India, instead of dynast Nehru. We are still reeling and kneeling because of the decisions taken by this so called Mahatma even after 75 years of freedom.

Does the Congress represent India…My answer is A BIG NO…..So tell them to get lost…..which is happening with them….The present so called leaders are worried about the Surname..that’s it
The movie will be a stupendous hit….finally the other side of the story will be presented. The days of cooked up stories and eugolising one name should end and will end.

As a child I read only praises of Gandhi, like he single handedly gave freedom. But as I grew up and read outside textbooks. I learned otherwise. When there were so many brave leaders who died for our freedom and were tortured, why was gandi put in Aligarh palace, I repeat palace, for home arrest,, that struck me as weird. Then his behavior with his grand nieces was just plain OLD NASTY.. AND the lies started to fall away, more I read, more it seemed like Gandhi held us back. We would have got freedom much earlier then 1947 if it weren’t for Gandhi. He delayed the process and helped the British. He was just evil. Hopefully all Indians realize this truth. Thanks to Godse for protecting 🙏 us.

Finally an article that actually distinguishes between an assassinator & a terrorist! Godse was an assassinator, Ajmal Kasab, Yakub Memom, Afzal Guru et all are terrorists! There’s a difference if only hateful congis & lelis could read a dictionary & understand the meanings of both words correctly! LoL!

There’s no doubt that Godse’s perspective needs to be given credence. In fact reading about it will just give you goosebumps! It’s so painful to hear it, I cannot even imagine what debilitating pain & suffering Hindus at the time underwent post partition!

True Gandhi wasn’t an invincible superhuman or an immortal incapable of fallacies. He was a human being and committed a lot of mistakes knowingly or unknowingly. But he was a staunch Hindu who chose to lead his life & the freedom struggle according to Hindu principles. Therefore it’s my contention that as a Hindu, Gandhi deserves to be debated & criticised ONLY by Hindus within the Hindu community. Outside the community, in front of the despicable abrahamic forces, communists & left liberals, Hindus must never shame Gandhi or Godse.

Have you seen a christian cancel St. Xavier, the orchestrator of Goa Inquisition? Have you seen a muslim cancel any jihadi? Have you seen a communist or a left liberal cancel stalin, polpot, mao, all of whom were mass murderers? Then why must a Hindu alone be forced to cancel Gandhi or Godse just for his ideological & political adversaries’ sake? Nope, that’s not needed at all…
