A study released by the Centre for Policy Studies, a Chennai think-tank in 2016 revealed that Tamil Nadu was the most favourable state in India for the growth of Christianity. Conversion cases in the state have been dramatically rising for a long time now. However, those having faith in Hinduism, are going through a hard time. But, a Hindu man, in a courageous move, chose to disregard his own children after they converted to Christianity.
Hard-earned money sidelined for the sake of Hinduism
Dinamalar Velayudham, an 85-year-old resident of Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu, was annoyed with his children for converting to Christianity. Saddened by the thought that he would not be cremated as per Hindu traditions, he has donated his house worth Rs. 2 crores to a temple.
Velayudham worked as a Health Inspector for the Tamil Nadu government. His two daughters and a son are married to Christians and have converted to Christianity as well. Thus, he chose to bestowal the property rights of the house to the temple. The man handed over the documents to the HRCE minister as the temple falls under Government’s controlled properties.
Velayudham, in a media interaction, said, “As a follower of Hindu Dharma I wanted my children to perform my final rites. Both of my daughters have married Christian men and are in government jobs. My son works in a private firm and he also married a Christian woman. All three of them have converted to Christianity. So they are not going to perform my final rites as per Hindu traditions”.
“I own a house in a 2,680 sq.ft property which is worth around Rs 2 crore now. I don’t want to give the house to those who have changed their religion. So I have donated it to Kumarakkottam Murugan temple which is my family deity. Those who have converted to Christianity will not perform any rites even when I die. So I don’t want to give my property to them. My second son and daughter are residing in a part of the house. They can live here as long as myself and my wife live. But the moment we die the temple will take over the house”.
Christian missionaries responsible for demographic change
Though the man has given his property to the temple, it must be noted that Christian missionaries have infiltrated HRCE through crypto exchanges. These missionaries have been encroaching and illegally procuring temple properties. These missionaries pressurize youths and Dalits to convert to Christianity resulting in severe demographic change.
Earlier this year, an 18-year-old boy was left with no option but to commit suicide as his family, under the influence of missionaries in his village, forced him to convert to Christianity. In 2017, a boy was thrashed by his own father for not converting to Christianity in Karnataka.

While India was battling the Chinese virus, such missionaries initiated a wave of proselytisation previously unheard of in India. Reports suggest that missionaries were able to convert as many as 1,00,000 people to Christianity amidst the lockdown last year. Further, missionaries also planted several churches all across India, using them as a shot in the arm for their predatory proselytisation.
Conversion is a big problem in the Hindi heartland as well as the southern states. While the church and missionaries continue to deny their role in conversion, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra had remarked, “To increase their population, some missionaries have been involved in conversions, and the government has been discussing various options to stop conversions through inducement.”
After the Islamists, the missionaries have been at the forefront of the conversion racket. And it is high time, the government begins a crackdown on these missionaries to prevent conversions in the country.
