Ashwini Nachappa was born on October 21, 1967. The Indian athletics’ beauty girl has played a variety of roles. Ashwini Nachappa has demonstrated considerable adaptability in her life as an Olympian athlete, Tollywood actor, social worker, and educator. The former athlete from Bangalore is now focused on her organization, the Karumbhaiah’s Academy of Learning and Sports in Gonnikoppa, a small village in Karnataka’s Coorg district.
She is also a trustee of Parikrama, an NGO that works to better the lives of slum children and orphaned children. “I miss Parikrama a lot, and if the Academy gets back on track, I’d like to resume my work with the NGO, where we help the poorest of the poor,” said Ashwini, who is now in her late 30s. Ashwini Nachappa rose to prominence in the early 1980s after outrunning P.T. Usha on two occasions. She has been dubbed “India’s FloJo.” She was awarded the Arjuna award in 1988.

Family
Her husband’s name is Datta Karumbhaiah, and he is a businessman as well as a former junior India hockey player. Ashwini Nachappa has two daughters, both of whom are into sports. At the SAI South Centre, Ashwini’s girls train with coach Ganguly Prasad.

Career of Ashwini Nachappa
Ashwini Nachappa began her track & field career as a hurdler before switching to sprints. She received the most promising athlete of the meet’ award at the 1981 Inter-State Championship in Bangalore in the under-16 category. She trained with a variety of coaches until the late 1980s, when Sunil Abraham took over as her coach.
In 1984 (in Nepal; two silver medals), 1986 (in Bangladesh; two silver medals), and 1988, Nachappa represented India in three South Asian Federation Games (in Pakistan, three gold medals).
She competed in two Asian Games, the first in 1986 in South Korea (sixth in long jump) and the second in 1990 in Beijing, China (silver medal in four-by-100-meter relay). She also competed for India in two World Championships, one in Rome in 1987 and the other in Tokyo in 1991 (both times as a member of the 4 x 400 m relay). She beat Usha to the gold in the 200 m at the 1990 National Open Meet in New Delhi, clocking 24.07 seconds.
Unfortunately for Ashwini Nachappa, an injury prompted her to withdraw from the Olympic trials in Barcelona, and she chose to retire while still in the lead. Her brief cinematic career provided her quite a few notable moments.

Other activities
She has appeared in a number of Telugu feature films, including her own biographical film, Ashwini, for which she won the state’s Nandi Award for Best Debut Actress. She is a well-known social worker and educator who has also created a school. The Bangalore Urban District Athletics Association now has her as president.
In June 2004, Ashwini Nachappa founded her own school, Karumbhaiah’s Academy. The Datta Karumbhaiah Academy is named after her husband.
Ashwini’s Sports Foundation (ASF) was founded in 2010 by Ashwini Nachappa, one of India’s best-known sprinters. An Asian Games medalist and having represented India at the 1984 Olympics, Ashwini realized the dire need to create a system that will nurture potential athletes consistently.
