In 2020, when the state government of West Bengal failed to address the Covid situation properly. The senior virologist Amitabha Nandi had suggested strong measures to be taken to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the state but the advice was turned down by the government alleging the Central Government was the cause of the spread. At that time there were 60,803 active Covid-19 cases in the state.
Regarding the recent Delta variant of the Covid, the virologist said that this variant’s disease could have different symptoms than those caused by other viral mutations. However, virologists in the country did not usually get central attention before the pandemic hit the world. Since the rise of the Corona Virus Dr Amitabha Nandi never hesitated to speak against the governments and created awareness among the people against the deadly virus.
