Journalism is considered to be the fourth pillar of democracy and also the most crucial one. Despite this, the journalists in mainstream media fail to recognize the significance of the profession. While several journalists like Ravish Kumar, Rajdeep Sardesai, Sagarika Ghosh peddle their ideological agendas under the garb of journalism, others keep touching a new low to make a joke out of it. In what comes as a major disappointment by a mainstream anchor, Deepak Chaurasia went LIVE to broadcast a programme on the tragic death of General Bipin Rawat in a drunken state.
Drunken Deepak presented a LIVE programme:
In a video floating in the media, TV anchor Deepak Chaurasia can be seen presenting a LIVE programme about the demise of General Rawat in a drunken state. In the video, he can be seen struggling to finish a sentence. Uncomfortable during the broadcast, he even addressed General Rawat as a journalist. Chaurasia who was paying tribute to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in the show, ended up referring to him as VP Singh.
The viral video evoked strong reactions from netizens and Chaurasia is facing widespread criticism.
Severe backlash on social media:
The severe backlash on social media by the netizens to slam the Journalist makes it quite evident that the latter has angered the people by his shameful act.
A Twitter user slammed Chaurasia and wrote, “He seems to be drunk! That’s a disrespect to #BipinRawat Ji and Indian Army! #DeepakChaurasia.”

General Bipin Rawat – a tragic loss:
On the 9th of December, an army man par excellence, General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor. Along with him, his wife, Madhulika Rawat and 11 others succumbed to their injuries. General Bipin Rawat was in the Mi-17V-5 helicopter along with his wife, defence assistant, security commandos, and an IAF pilot when the chopper crashed due to reasons which are yet to be ascertained.

The crash took place shortly after the Russian-made Mi-17 V5 chopper took off from the Air Force base in Sulur, Coimbatore, for Wellington in the Nilgiri Hills. General Bipin Rawat was on his way to the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington where he was to deliver a lecture.
While India is mourning the loss of its bravest and most astute son with the demise of General Bipin Rawat, Journalist Deepak Chaurasia has disrespected him by paying tribute in a drunken state. It is high time mainstream media prevents itself from involving in such activities and Chaurasia needs to be held accountable for the same so that an example can be set.
