In recent years, the fashion industry in India has embarked on a journey of inclusivity and diversity. In India, these days several show directors have opened themselves up to the casting of plus-size models, transgender models and mature models. Anjali Lama born as Nabin Wabia became first transgender women to walk in an Indian Fashion show- Lakme Fashion week, 2017.
The public sees you differently and treats you differently. The lama works closely with the transgender community and has been asked to relinquish her public position and the extent of her reach. Everything that flows into their identity goes through them, and the community must represent them. Anjali Lama is a new star who can hardly get past the high cheekbones, slender frame and striking looks of many international catwalk models. She has managed to break through the glass ceiling and pave the way for transgenders not only in Nepal but also in India.
Anjali Lama’s personal life
Anjali Lama (Nabin Waiba) was born to a simple farming family in Nuwakot in rural Nepal. However, she knew she was born in the wrong body and decided to dress as a woman for the first time in 2005. She tried her hand as a model in Nepal, but there were few opportunities and transgender people were even fewer. She moved to Kathmandu to seek work and modeling jobs. Anjali Lama’s career in the modeling world began when she never thought about becoming a model, but several times was told that she looked like a model because of her perfect physique and height.
At the age of 18 she moved to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal where her struggle with gender identity continued. Anjali Lama found her true identity as a transgender with the help of the Blue Diamond Society, which she considers to be the happiest day of her life. While living in Nepal, she watched television and stumbled across a show about transgender people. Being attracted to the world of fashion and beauty, she had friends who encouraged her to model. Not going out of fashion, she was the first to start learning more about modeling, make-up and grooming.

Anjali Lama – Career
Anjali Lama has become a rising star in the industry gracing the cover of the International Women’s Day campaign by Elle India and Calvin Klein and walking the catwalk for Anita Dongre, Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani and Eka. Her first big break came when she appeared on the cover of a Nepalese magazine called Voice of Women. Her big break came in 2009 when she appeared in Voice of Woman, a national Nepalese magazine. She began to apply for major fashion shows in India, but it would be another three years before she strutted down an Indian catwalk for the first time.
She took part in Lakme Fashion Week in 2017, but it took three attempts and two seasons before she was accepted into her modelling pool. None of the modelling agencies or fashion houses worked with transgender models, and she was met with little sympathy. Modeling success continued Anjali when she was named Model of the Year at the 2019 Grazia Millennial Awards and Model of the Year at the 2019 Vogue Beauty Awards at the JW Marriott in Mumbai. When Anjali Lama first pursued her career, she was constantly rejected, but her determination led her to take part in Lakme Fashion Week, India’s first transgender model.

She cut a poised figure in an evening dress that honored her femininity as she marched down the catwalk alongside her many year’s older models. Two years later, she is at the forefront of deconstructing rigid gender binaries at the forefront of a 24-hour career, and her latest campaign for Calvin Klein puts her in the league of supermodel greats like Kendall Jenner and Lara Stone. She is also the most popular transgender model in Nepal and was the first and only transgender model from Nepal to walk in Lakme, the first Nepali to appear at the Cannes Film Festival, and also her Hollywood debut.
Anjali worked with Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez in an anthology film called Women’s Stories, Anjali Lama made her Hollywood debut with the film Women Stories, sharing a scene entitled “Share the Ride” with Bollywood star Jacqueline Fernandez in a segment titled “Share the Ride,” a film directed by filmmaker Leena Yadav, who is also known for films such as Parch Shabd and Teen Patti.
