On December 24, 2012, in Mumbai-Pune Highway, there was an accident involving the well-known Marathi film, television and stage actor Anand Abhyankar and his younger colleague Akshay Pendse, who played the role of Abhyankar’s son in the TV show Mala Sasu Havi. Marathi film and TV characters Abhyanksar, 48, and Akshay Pendse, 35, and Akshay’s son, two-year-old Pratyush, lost their lives on that night when the cars collided with a speeding truck on Pune-Mumbai expressway. Akshay Pendse, 35, and his wife Deepti, who survived the accident, were taken to Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi.
This unfortunate accident happened at the Urse toll booth. A speeding truck travelling in the opposite direction veered into the wrong lane due to a missing divider and collided. Wadgaon Maval police inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi. Investigating officer SP Mane, from Waddon police station, said the two actors were taken to Nigdi, a suburb of Pune, where both Anand Abhyankar and AKshay Pendse died of their injuries. Pendse’s wife Dipti, 30, and Pendse’s driver Suresh Jagtap suffered injuries. Akshay’s brother said that after losing his brother and nephew in an accident, he criticized the government and others around him.
Abayankar’s death suit
Abhayankar is a familiar face in Borivali, a suburb of Mumbai where Abhyankar, 48, lived, he had worked in several Hindi films, commercials and Marathi films, series and jingles.
The National Lok Adalat District and Sessions Court in Shivajinagar awarded Rs 72 lakh in compensation to the family members of the late Marathi actor Anand Abhyankar who died in a traffic accident on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway in 2012. The family members had filed a lawsuit for compensation in 2014.
