There is good leadership, bad leadership and then Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, who is the incumbent CM of West Bengal. It is a fact that TMC chief Mamata has no trust in democracy, and thus she keeps seeking opportunities to destroy the opposition. Little does she know that the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal assembly is BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari, will not be ceding the grounds for Mamata as Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, former CM of West Bengal, did after losing the assembly elections in 2011.
As reported by TFI, Adhikari had left TMC and had joined the BJP. Additionally, Adhikari delivered a crushing blow to the TMC chief when he defeated Mamata from Nandigram and now, he has emerged as the face of the opposition in Bengal. Mamata could not resist the defeat and thus, she has been up in arms against him and keeps dragging his name as well as his aides in false cases.
The recent example is Rakhal Bera, who was arrested for promising jobs in lieu of money. Rakhel is assumed to be a close associate of Suvendu Adhikari. However, The Calcutta High Court ordered immediate release of Rakhal Bera and directed the police not to arrest him in any other case without the high court’s permission.
It has been observed by the court that there appears to be a pattern of attempt to keep the petitioner in custody by registering one FIR after the other.
“This Court directs that the petitioner shall be forthwith released from custody,” Justice Mantha ordered. He directed that “all police stations in the State may register any FIR against the petitioner but he shall not be arrested without the express leave of this Court.”
Earlier this year, Mamata also gave a free rein to the Bengal CID to take over the investigations into the unexplained death of one of Suvendu Adhikari’s bodyguards in 2018.
Mamata Banerjee had been keeping the opposition leaders under pressure as part of her retaliatory action in West Bengal. She believes in politics of revenge that has resulted in the complete wipe out of Left and Congress from Bengal, and leaders like Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee have been marginalized.
Bhattacharjee had ruled the West Bengal for almost 11 years (2000-2011) and lost to Mamata Banerjee in 2011 assembly elections. He is often remembered as the man who lost to Mamata Banerjee, and is still blamed for the end of CPIM in West Bengal as well. Reported by TFI, Buddhadeb’s tenure as CM worsened the macroeconomic condition of West Bengal as the state could not compete with Southern and Western Indian states.

Reportedly, the Trinamool alliance won the Lok Sabha elections in Bengal in 2009. While Mamata was on her way to sweep the 2011 assembly elections as well, Buddhadeb, who was supposed to mount the fierce attack against her, had no moves up his sleeve. The lack of any strategic moves by Buddhadeb at that time resulted in CPIM losing the 2011 assembly elections.
Ever since, Budhhadeb lost the power against Mamata, he started ceding the grounds for her. For praising Mamata in a hush way, he also received flak by his own party.
Mamata, who dreams of acquisitioning the PM’s chair, keeps getting reprimanded by the court again and again which will eventually result in ruining her dream. She seeks to trouble Suvendu as much as she can as he has been the most vocal voice against her on every issue.
But, Mamata will have to sit empty handed because the opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari is not going to make it easy for her and will continue to resist her politics of revenge. He will not surrender before Mamata the way Buddhadeb did few years back.
