The aged-old Congress party is going round the clock to fight the Modi tidal wave in the 2024 General Elections. The party is assumed to join hands with Mamta Banerjee along with Prashant Kishor. However, the loopholes still exist and Veerappa Moily, the old Congress leader is supposedly indicating the party to fill these loopholes.
Veerappa Moily, on Thursday, said that an anti-Narendra Modi agenda alone will not help sustain an opposition front to take on the BJP. Moily said, “They (opposition parties) should not bother about leadership now. If they start debating as to who should become its leader, which political party should lead, it will not take off.”
“That’s what they (the then opposition parties) used to do — anti-Indira Gandhi. That did not succeed,” he added.
Veerappa is a veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Karnataka. From 2009 to 2019, he represented the Chikballapur constituency in Lok Sabha. But he lost in 2019 against a BJP candidate. He has also served as Former Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Minister of Corporate Affairs, and Minister of Power in the Indian government.
He is regarded as one of the senior members of the Congress Party, and a close adviser for the Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Thus, it becomes mandatory for the opposition to acknowledge his words and consider them as useful advice.
Despite the multiple defeats in assembly elections as well as general elections, the party still lacks the idea of how to proceed with a clear image for favourable results in the upcoming elections. It continues to question the armed forces and government even on critical issues such as Balakot strikes and Pulwama attacks. Moreover, not even a single comment against the terrorist as well as Pakistan has been heard from Rahul Gandhi.
The Gandhi family is very well aware of the fact that Modi tidal wave is something difficult to fight with and thus, they keep looking for the issues such as Pegasus and Rafale deal to target the government, something they are really good at. But, due to a lack of concrete facts and almost zero knowledge about the topic, the party ends up losing the game with no votes and all failure.
Moreover, the party, instead of solving its own crises and infights, is always on the run to defame BJP members. It is quite evident that the party has failed to clear its image on the grounds of corruption and has no leadership face against Modi. For a one-on-one battle with Modi, the opposition needs to clear all the speculations and confusion regarding the launch of a PM face. Afterwards, it should proceed with all possible options at hand which can help clear its anti-national and corrupt image.
Veerappa understands that anti-Modi agendas will not help effectively because Modi has earned the trust of the nation through his dedication to the country’s development and security. Even those who do not follow his ideologies are of the belief that Modi will not let the country suffer and will protect it at any cost.
Thus, through his statement, Veerappa has tried to send out the message to Gandhis suggesting them not to go with the alliance against Modi. In the last few years, the alliance formed in opposition to PM Modi had to witness massive defeat. Whether it was the 2014 general election or the 2017 assembly election of the country’s largest state, Uttar Pradesh, no alliance had the power to defeat Modi.
With his message, Veerappa has emerged as a saviour for the opposition and Congress should acknowledge his words. If the opposition fails to crack the message or ignore it anyway, it will completely lose track and will not be able to even stand against the BJP in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
