Duty over religion, this fundamental thought was conveyed by Covid Warriors including doctors during the pandemic. But, Dr. Johnrose Austin Jayalal, IMA President probably did not learn anything from them. Earlier this year, the brazen and proselytising views of Dr Jayalal caught the public eye. The IMA President was found trying to convert the students into Christianity through his remarks. He is caught in controversies yet again, because the Delhi High Court has dismissed the infamous President’s appeal against a trial court order asking him not to use the organisation’s platform to propagate any religion.
The IMA Chief had filed a plea in the Delhi High Court against the trial court order asking him to stop the misuse of position for propagating his own religious belief.Justice Asha Menon of the Delhi Courthad issued a notice and sought the response of the complainant.
However, during the hearing on Tuesday, the Delhi High Court dismissed the infamous President’s appeal against the trial court order to not use the organisation’s platform to propagate any religion.
“The appeal is dismissed,” said Justice Asha Menon while pronouncing the order.
Earlier reported by TFI, the IMA President made it clear that the association will be used for spreading the word of the gospel and proselytising susceptible young students and medical practitioners into the fold of Christianity.
“I deeply desire to be a living witness to God and encourage young medical students and doctors to receive Jesus as their personal savior. I aim to be a witness for God in the secular organization I serve,” Dr Jayalal said.
“The Hindu Nationalist Government wants to destroy modern medicine saying it is ‘western medicine.’ Please keep this in your international prayers. If everything goes their way, we will not have pure modern medicine courses in India by 2030”, he added.
In the aftermath of misusing the platform for own propaganda, the Legal Rights Protection Forum (LPRF) requested the Centre to cancel IMA’s license for violating section 12(4)(f)(vi) of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010.
The complaint states, “Indian Medical Association (IMA) is a registered society bearing registration no. 35 dated 17-05-1934 having its headquarters at IMA House, Indra Prastha Marg, New Delhi – 110002. The said organization is widely regarded as Guild of Indian Medical Practitioners in India is represented by its President Dr John Rose Austin Jayalal, National President and Chief Functionary of the society.”
It added, “It has come to the notice of larger public of the nation that Dr John Rose Austin Jayalal, the President of ‘Indian Medical Association’ Society is abusing his position and profession to convert to Christianity, young doctors and anyone who comes into contact with him in the course of the discharge of his duties as National President of IMA.”
After the complaint, IMA President was summoned by the Delhi Court. The court during the hearing had ordered Jayalal to not use the organisation’s platform to propagate any religion.
The IMA Chief filed a plea in the Delhi High Court against trial court order. The plea stated that the trial court “errored in directing and passing adverse statement that appellant shall not use the platform of IMA for propagating any religion”, which the appellant “never did”.
The Delhi High Court seems to have set an example yet again that no individual can take advantage of any respectable organization’s platform and use any high-ranking position to propagate any religious beliefs. The court declined all the hollow appeals made by the IMA President and proved that the law of the land rules supreme.
