A clubhouse tape leaked in the media circles of senior Malayalam journalist MP Basheer has revealed how international funding from Saudi Arabia and other gulf countries pumped into radical outfits such as India Jamaat-e-Islami is being used to run a decades-old operation which aims to advance and spread the menace of radical Islam in the country.
A YouTube channel named Marunadan Malayali neatly dissected the clubhouse tape. In the purported audio, Journalist MP Basheer, the former editorial head of now-defunct news outlet – Indiavision, can be heard saying that, back in the day he received a call from T Arif Ali, secretary-general of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
After being extended the invitation to meet him in person, MP Basheer travelled all the way to Jamaat-e-Islami office in Trivandrum where Arif told Basheer that his organisation had some problems with the way Muslim women reporters dressed on the news network. Arif subtly threatened Basheer and called him to use his position to make the necessary changes in the outfit of the reporters to send the right message amongst the Muslims.
However, things got interesting when Basheer reveals that during his back and forth correspondence with Jamaat-e-Islami, he stumbled upon a sensational letter where the Islamic organisation was requesting the King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia to increase the financial grant to the radical Islamic organisation so that they could create awareness and promote Islamic dress code in Kerala and India.
Basheer revealed that Jamaat-e-Islami had started a project in India to promote the Islamic dress code for women and had access to funds from King Abdul Aziz University. It is imperative to note that Osama Bin Laden, the now-dead al-Qaeda leader had studied economics and business administration at King Abdul Aziz University.
Reported extensively by TFI, Jammat-e-Islamic has been found guilty of inciting separatism among Kashmiri students, apart from financing terror operations against the Indian forces, as well as the Indian citizens. Not only have their offices been raided and sealed, but also their administrative staff has been arrested and their bank accounts, with black money amounting to millions, have been seized.
Moreover, an India today expose of 2018 further proves the points made by MP Basheer in the Clubhouse tape. Mohammed Bashir, joint secretary of a madrasa run by the Karuna Charitable Trust at Pullorammal in Kozhikode district was found confessing to the publication that the madrasas in the state were slowly filling the minds of students with the teachings of Wahabbism.
“There’s a problem if we talk about a caliphate in public. There are many Hindu people around. If we speak about Khilafat (caliphate), the Hindus would call us ISIS men. So, we are not direct. We put it in the hearts of children bit by bit,” said Bashir, whilst adding, “Caliphate is the basis. It’s the basic for the children. Only then will there be a caliphate. The base is required. It’s there in our hearts. We share this with the children bit by bit. There’s no rush. A caliphate is not built in a day.”
Reported by TFI previously, Turkish outfits backed by Erdogan’s radical government in Ankara had also been supporting and funding Islamist radical organizations in parts of the country including Kerala and Kashmir. The assessment report in New Delhi had noted the emergence of Turkey as “the hub of anti-India activities” next only to Pakistan.
The Recep Tayyip Erdoğan government is also using NGOs and lucrative scholarships to lure youngsters to the dark side. Ankara has been providing lucrative scholarships and running exchange programmes for Indian Kashmiri and Muslim students to study in Turkey through state-sponsored NGOs. Once the students land in Turkey, they are approached and taken over by the Pakistan proxies operating there.
Some of the notable NGOs mentioned in the list that sponsor these scholarships include Turkey Youth Foundation (TUGVA), Presidency of Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Turkish Airlines, YunnusEmre Institute (YEI), Turkey’s Diyanet Foundation (TDF) and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
Out of the aforementioned NGOs, TUGVA is led by Erdogan’s equally radicalized son Bilal. The NGO has strong links with the Islamic outfit Student Islamic Organisation (SIO) as well as the aforementioned Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing.

There is a clear nexus of different radical Islamist outfits banding together and blooming on the funding from the Arab countries. The government needs to take note of such nefarious plans and do the needful to stop the propagation of radical ideas in society.
