On Saturday, TMC government in West Bengal stoked a controversy after Tabassum Ara, the Deputy Mayor of Asansol, vaccinated people without having any medical degree or professional experience of the same. As a result, TMC received massive criticism.

Criticising the move, BJP Asansol (south) MLA Agnimitra Paul said that during the TMC regime everyone gets the liberty to do unscrupulous things, thus destroying the very concept of liberty itself. According to a report by Free Press Journal,  Agnimitra Paul said, “Under TMC regime people get a free pass to open fake vaccination camps and now without any degree or training the TMC leaders started vaccinating people.”

Union Minister of State, Babul Supriyo took to Twitter and said, “Seems like TMC govt has no control over its administrators. TMC’s Tabassum Ara, a member of the administrative body of AMC, has vaccinated people herself and risked hundreds of lives…Will her political colour shield her from stern punishment?”

As reported by Free Press Journal, Tabassum claimed to have just held the syringe to create awareness, despite being seen giving jabs to people. “I didn’t give anyone any jabs. I had just held the syringe to promote awareness. Moreover, I had done nursing training during my school days,” said Tabassum.

Asansol Municipal Corporation chairman Amarnath Chatterjee had to send a notice to Tabassum along with one doctor and two nurses who were present there. TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy also said that necessary actions will be taken as it is a very serious issue.

As reported by TFI, back in June, another shocking incident had come to light when TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty got duped by a man impersonating as an IAS officer and organising a fake COVID-19 vaccination camp. The camp was organised under the name of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) in the Kasba area of Southern Kolkata. Even though the camp was organised by using KMC’s name, neither the Special Commission of KMC nor local councillor Susanta Ghosh was aware of any such vaccination drive. About 200 to 250 people were administered with fake Covishield vaccine, along with Mimi Chakraborty. The mastermind behind the camp was Debanjan Deb and people at the camp were reportedly injected with an antibiotic. Deb was eventually arrested for his involvement in the alleged.

Meanwhile, another person named Indrajit Shaw was arrested by the Kolkata Police over a fake vaccination camp in Kolkata. “Indrajit Shaw was arrested and will be under police custody as he confessed he was instrumental in opening a fake camp at North Kolkata’s Amherst Street area,” mentioned the police sources.

Similar, another weird incident took place in Tarakeswar, where an 80-year-old man was denied a second dose of vaccination because his son is a BJP supporter. However, the TMC denied such allegations.

With the above listed scams, it seems like CM Mamata Banerjee has no control over her administration. Kolkata vaccination scam reflects how common and deep-rooted the rot runs in West Bengal.
