Taking secularism to new heights, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) — the student wing of Congress recently expelled its seven members from the organisation for three years for posting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on the party’s official WhatsApp group. The expelled party members are from the East Singhbhum unit of Jharkhand and were shown the doors on the orders of NSUI district President Rose Tirkey.
Kamal Agrawal, Raj Mahato, Rahul Giri, Anand Singh, Prashant Kumar, Lav Kumar and Jayanto Pramanik are the unfortunate students that joined an organisation that seemingly has different notions of what secularism exactly means.
“We all are NSUI workers and we have been suspended by Rose Tirkey. According to her, if we want to be part of the WhatsApp group then we can’t write ‘Jai Shri Ram’. We want to ask her, is it wrong to take our diety’s name, why would she call it vulgar?” one of the suspended members was quoted as saying by Times Now.
The NSUI district President in her diktat remarked that the workers were deposed because the slogan ‘Jai Shri Ram’ promoted factionalism amongst the group.
“These people promoted factionalism against NSUI district president and promoted a particular religion in NSUI’s official WhatsApp group. All these leaders are being expelled immediately from the NSUI for three years for their anti-party activities, social media posts against party lines organisational protocol, and promoting factionalism within the organisation,” Tirkey stated in the order.
She added, “Congress and NSUI are not biased or inclined to any particular religion, it’s not a party or organisation of any particular religion. There’s no need and place for leaders resorting to such acts. This apart, they were continuously posting objectionable posts against the district president on social media, leading to mental harassment. They have been resorting to anti-party activities. They were also promoting factionalism and accusing NSUI district leadership of arbitrarily forming a new team,”
In case of NSUI or particularly Congress, anything that pertains to Hindu beliefs is intrinsically communal. While Sindur can be communal, a burqa cannot be. While Jai Shree Ram can be communal, Allah ‘o’ Akbar cannot be, albeit it is the mystic and spiritual chant of the Prophet espoused to breed tranquillity.
Such dubious ideology of Congress festering within its student wing explains why the party is morally bankrupt on the national level and has been losing relevance. The voters continue to distance themselves from the party not because it has Rahul Gandhi at the top but because Congress leaves no opportunity to demonize the Hindus. Banning its own workers for sending Jai Shree Ram text, Congress cannot hit a lower low.
