The Congress on Thursday (June 3) appointed Imran Masood, known infamously for wanting to chop Prime Minister Narendra Modi into pieces, as the secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC). The post was being held by Punjab leader Kuljeet Singh Nagra and Masood will replace him to work with Shakti Singh Gohil, with an eye on next year’s UP assembly polls.

However, Masood’s appointment instantly became the talking point across social media platforms as netizens unearthed the old gem of a speech of the Congress leader, delivered in the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
“Narendra Modi se kaun ladega? Jo thok ke jawab dena jaane Modi s*ale ko.” (Who will fight against Modi? The one who knows how to give it back to this &@*&# Modi). Imran Masood was heard saying in his colourful extempore.
“Woh Gujarat samaj raha hai, 4 per cent Musalman hai Gujrat mei, yaha 42% Musalman hai. Yaha Gujarat bana denge, s*le ki boti boti kaat denge, chhoti chhoti (बोटी काट देंगे, छोटी-छोटी)” (He thinks this is Gujarat, Gujarat has 4 per cent Muslims, here Muslims are 42%, we will make Gujarat here, will chop @#$@# in small pieces).

Imran Masood was a Congress Lok Sabha candidate from the Saharanpur constituency when he gave an example of his verbal diarrhoea prowess. He, however, was jailed for his hate speech and lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to BJP’s Raghav Lakhanpal.
It is not the first time that Congress has rewarded this hate-monger. In the run-up to the 2017 Uttar Pradesh State Assembly elections, the party had appointed him as Congress’ vice-president in Uttar Pradesh. Masood was one of the four-party vice-presidents in the state. Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid had defended his appointment by saying that person cannot be held down for the metaphors they speak.

Khurshid had said, “Metaphors, these are metaphors and you cannot hold a person down for metaphors they speak and I am sure that he has been given guidance and counselling as far as this is concerned and I don’t believe that you would have heard something similar since then.”
Imran Masood comes from a family of equal dubious credentials. He is the nephew of former minister Rasheed Masood, who was the first MP to be disqualified in September 2013 from the Parliament, when found guilty in a case of corruption in medical colleges across the country.
The disqualification took place soon after the Supreme Court gave a strong verdict stating that any lawmaker against whom cases are pending cannot be a Member of Parliament. Rasheed was sentenced to four years of imprisonment as well.
The fact that Congress party routinely gives promotion to such toxic leaders is one of the reasons why it is getting decimated from one state after another.
