We all remember Baba from the Malviya Nagar Dhaba, don’t we? The teary-eyed man running a rusty old Dhaba in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar roadsides. Last year, a good samaritan decided to extend a helping hand to the man and his family. In a video posted by YouTuber Gaurav Wassan, Baba was seen crying because of all the economic devastation brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. The video went viral overnight, and within 24 hours, Baba Ka Dhaba became a superhit food joint. Donations flowed to the tune of lakhs (Rs. 42 lakhs officially) and the fortunes of Kanta Prasad took an unprecedented turn for the better.
It seems becoming a “lakhpati” got to Prasad’s head. Soon, as Baba Ka Dhaba became a nationwide sensation, Kanta Prasad’s attitude witnessed a marked shift. With shades on, he was seen deriding the man who made him known to the people of India. With the money he had amassed, Baba opened a new restaurant by investing 5 lakh rupees. Now, that restaurant has been shut since February, and Kanta Prasad is back to his roadside food stall earning a meagre Rs. 500 – 1,000 on a daily basis.
For wrongfully slandering YouTuber Gaurav Wassan, Kanta Prasad has now released a new video and apologised for his behaviour. In the video clip, Kanta Prasad is seen with folded hands apologising and claimed that he didn’t accuse Gaurav Wassan of stealing money and that he made a mistake of saying that Wassan had approached them. Prasad further adds that he was in the wrong for saying, “I made a mistake by saying ‘I didn’t call him but he approached us himself,’ I’d like to apologise.”

Gaurav Wassan – who was accused of misappropriating funds belonging to Baba had produced his bank statements – showing how the accusations levelled against him were false. As for Kanta Prasad, Wassan was not the only helpful individual he blamed. Blaming social worker Tushant Adlakha for wrongly advising him to open a restaurant, Baba said, “I had to shut that new eatery on February 15 this year, since I was incurring heavy losses. Tushant had said he’d help run it, but wohchalagaya (he left).”

According to the Hindustan Times, those accustomed to Baba, however, claim that he wasn’t experienced enough to handle the money that he amassed and that lead to the closure of the restaurant. Tushant Adhalka was quoted as saying, “After the restaurant became functional, neither of his sons devoted time to manage the restaurant, and Baba had to sit at the counter himself. He would also drink regularly at night.”
Gaurav Wassan – who helped Baba rise to fame had said that the truth will be out someday and now that the truth is out, the owner of the eatery is back to square one and is apologising for falsely accusing the YouTuber. The public, however, seems to have zero empathy for Kanta Prasad, who they had last year loving called ‘Baba’. Kanta Prasad misused the support he received from the Indian public, and instead arrogantly slandered those who helped him. Now, the people of India seem to have had enough of his antics.
