‘We are ready to resign and save the people of Bengal,’ BJP Bengal lawmaker Arjun Singh’s furious outburst

While the central leadership of BJP remains silent on the alleged slaughtering of ground-level workers by goons in the aftermath of West Bengal assembly poll results, BJP MP Arjun Singh has come out and condemned the violence and simultaneously asked the state leaders to resign if they cannot protect the workers.

In a video that Arjun posted on his Twitter account and has since gone viral on the social media platforms — the BJP MP from Barrackpore can be heard saying, “I am a Sanatani Hindu and I am willing to sacrifice my life to serve my Dharma.”

The BJP MP said if the party high command gives him permission, he will implore the other elected representatives to resign and join the ground-level workers to protect them.

“Where are those who speak of secularism? Can they not see the atrocities being committed? I have told the party, if we cannot protect our people, then what right do we have to remain elected representatives?” asked Arjun.

Speaking that a sort of Pakistan had already been created in Bengal, the BJP MP said that if the situation carries like this, Bengal will be separated from India.

“My party is ready to carry on the fight democratically. But this kind of revenge politics, 9 people have been murdered already, houses are being destroyed, bombs are being hurled, the police is absent. If it carries on like this, has West Bengal separated from the Union of India? Pakistan has already been created?” added the BJP MP.

The chain of events started after the initial trends on the counting day (May 2) suggested a landslide TMC victory. Later in the day, reportedly a raucous TMC mob gathered around the BJP office in Hastings, Kolkata and later violence erupted in Arambagh where a BJP office was burnt to crisp.

The video of a BJP worker named Avijit Sarkar posted on his Facebook page, hours before being lynched has sent shudders across the state as BJP supporters scurry around to seek refuge.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta, who contested the Tarakeshwar seat sounded the panic button when he asked Amit Shah to rush security forces in the Birbhum district after goons, allegedly from the TMC, targeted BJP supporters.

“Alarming situation in Nanoor (Birbhum district) with more than a thousand Hindu families out in the fields to escape marauding mobs seeking to take it out against BJP supporters. Reports of molestation or worse of women. Amit Shah please rush some security to the area,” Dasgupta had tweeted.

BJP national president JP Nadda landed in Bengal yesterday on a two-day visit and immediately went to the houses of the BJP workers who were allegedly attacked by miscreants and goons. However, other than that, the response of the central government to the violence has been timid. The government needs to step up and stop the alleged ‘reign of terror’.
