Babul Supriyo, the Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), who is a BJP candidate from the Tollygunj Lok Sabha constituency, has started seeing himself above the party. The insult and criticism of the party mean nothing to him as long as the opposition leaders do not say bad things about him.
Recently, Rajya Sabha MP and senior Samajwadi Party leader Jaya Bachchan, who is deployed by Akhilesh Yadav in West Bengal to campaign for TMC, criticised the party. She asked the people of the Tollyganj seat (most of the residents work in the Bengali film industry) to vote for the TMC candidate and criticised BJP, but Babul Supriyo is happy and assured that she had not said anything about him.
“I welcome her (Jaya Bachchan) in West Bengal. Though I do not have family relations with her, she knows me very well. She will speak against BJP but she will never say anything against me,” Mr Supriyo told ANI.
BJP always goes by the rule – Nation first, party second and individual last. But, Supriyo is clearly violating the golden rule that made the BJP the largest political organisation in the world by putting his reputation before that of the party.
On one hand, the footsoldiers of BJP and RSS are ready to give it all for the election. The death of hundreds of Karyakartas in the last four to five years could not shake their resolve to get rid of Mamata Banerjee and has only strengthened it. On the other hand, Supriyo is happy with Jaya Bachchan as long as she does not criticise him personally.
Most of the senior leaders of the BJP including BJP president J P Nadda have been attacked by goons of TMC. Nadda addressing the BJP party workers said, “The scenes I saw while coming here show that under Mamata Banerjee anarchy rules in Bengal. We were able to reach here because of the blessings of Ma Durga. It is a state of lawlessness. TMC workers left no stone unturned to try and throttle democracy. This is goonda raj.”
He added, “I had a bulletproof car. But almost all other cars were damaged. Kailash Vijayvargiya has a fracture in his hand. Other leaders’ cars were smashed. Our 50 workers on motorbikes were beaten up and their vehicles snatched. Eight of them are in the hospital.”
Despite all this that is being done to the President of the party, Babul Supriyo does not have a problem with Jaya Bachhan, who holds no bars while criticising the BJP leaders. The stars of the show business should always be kept away from politics because they keep themselves above the party interest, always. People like Supriyo should also be shown the exit door by BJP.
That’s democracy. Supriyo is merely stating that Jaya Bachchan is not engaging in petty personal attacks. I do not see how the author of the article can infer that Babul Supriyo “means” that he is above his party. The article is insinuating insult through haphazard innuendo.
Author should take a deep breath and chill out.
Not everything is an insult to the BJP.
It’s a good thing the author is not in politics – he/she would not last long with such hysteria.
