Rahul Gandhi has amounted to nothing in Indian politics. Having been airdropped as the Congress’ General Secretary, Vice President and then President, Rahul has made it seemingly big within the party only due to his surname and lineage. Rahul Gandhi has proven to have the incredible ability of losing consecutive elections by simply campaigning in poll-bound states. Since 2014, the Congress has suffered miserably across India, and is just shy of being called a regional party in the country. As such, the grand old party has devised a new strategy.
Needless to say, this strategy too has the Gandhis forming the fulcrum. Rahul Gandhi, instead of addressing large public gatherings and rallies in the poll-bound states, has instead gone all hippie. Much of Rahul Gandhi’s focus is on South India, as he tries to divide North and South Indians on the basis of their beliefs, habits and political choices. On top focus are Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where the Congress has a chance of putting up respectable fights. The other states, like Bengal and Assam, are seeing practically no campaigning by the Congress, since the results are already known to all.
Rahul Gandhi is enjoying life like there is no tomorrow. He almost seems like a student who is vacationing after completion of his exams, only that the examinations are just about to arrive. Swimming, dancing, push-ups, frequent visits to only-girls educational institutes – Rahul Gandhi finally seems to have come of age. The Congress poll campaign is not centred around promises of governance, development and ‘inclusive growth’, rather on the fitness of Rahul Gandhi.
It all began when last week, Rahul Gandhi decided to take a dive into the Keralan coast waters of the Arabian Sea, and emerged from their completely wet, with his T-shirt irreplaceably clinging on to his torso, from which one could faintly observe the outline of the man’s abs. Soon, Rahul Gandhi’s secret fitness regime was the talk of the town, and liberals and Congress workers alike began drooling over the man like never before. Has this made for good PR? It is perhaps the best PR the Gandhis have got in a very long time. Will such optics amount to anything electorally? No.

Speaking of optics, Rahul can do push-ups on one hand. A video of Rahul Gandhi has now emerged from Tamil Nadu in which the Congress leader is seen effortlessly doing push-ups with a schoolgirl. In the video, Rahul Gandhi is seen doing push-ups and martial art ‘Aikido’ with a student in Mulagumoodubn of Tamil Nadu. Rahul was able to complete 15 push-ups in less than a minute, and then went on to do some of them with one hand.

What fun is fun without a bit of dance? Rahul Gandhi also took to dancing with students of St. Joseph’s Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, along with AICC Tamil Nadu in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao. While other political parties across states put their blood and sweat into trying to win the elections, the Congress has got Rahul entertaining voters with his hilarious moves. But who can really blame the Congress for utilising Rahul Gandhi for what he does best – make a joke out of himself?
