In a viral video, Maulana Irshad Rasheed was seen praising Mahmud Ghaznavi, pointing his forefinger at the Somnath Temple. He now seems to have a change of heart after being jailed as he apologised for his comments which irked the Hindu community.
In the video, Maulana Rasheed was recently seen praising Mahmud Ghaznavi in a viral video, while standing near the holy Somnath temple in Gujarat. In the video, Maulana can be seen showering praises on Mahmud Ghaznavi for invading and destroying the Somnath temple, standing near the beach adjacent to the holy temple.

The Maulana while glorifying the Islamist marauder for plundering the temple, urged his fellow Muslims to read about their “glorious history” and make others read about it as well. He further asked the Muslims to not forget their “illustrious history”.

The video went viral quickly and soon the Gujarat Police sprung into action and filed an FIR against him as they began their efforts to nab him. The Maulana was recently arrested from Panipat in Haryana and soon took back his comments in another video and said that his remarks were misinterpreted and that his intention wasn’t to hurt the sentiments of any community.
While claiming that he had recorded that video when he visited Somnath Temple on May 4, 2019, the Maulana said that the only intention behind the controversial video was to praise the Somnath temple. He then proceeded to wash his hands off the video as he accused the media and a section of social media users of distorting and misrepresenting his old video and statement to berate him.
“My intention was not to hurt the religious sentiments of Indians or my Gujrati brothers or insult the Hindu place of worship. Be it a temple, mosque or church, all our places of worship. I did not intend to insult the temple or hurt anyone’s sentiments,” said Maulana Irshad Rasheed in his video message.
Recently, Waseem Rizvi, ex-chairperson of the UP Shia Central Waqf Board, paid the price for trying to bring about reforms in Islam as he is now being ostracised and is all set to be de-Islamised as his actions seem to have rubbed the extremists and ultra-soft seculars of the Muslim community the wrong way.
Earlier last week, Rizvi filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to remove 26 verses of the Quran, alleging that the verses promoted terrorism and Jihad and his life has since taken a horrific turn as he faces the prospect of being thrown out of the community.
