The Congress party is known for its hypocrisy. The party is taking different ideological stands on the same issue in different states in the upcoming assembly elections. In Kerala, it is a rival of the Communists while in Bengal both are in alliance. In some states, it is for privatisation, while in others, opposed to the same.
The party crossed all the limits of hypocrisy in its manifestos for Assam and West Bengal legislative assemblies. In their manifesto for West Bengal, the party emphasised on state’s law and order situation, women’s safety, social security, industrialisation, job creation; and most importantly, the party said that it does not believe in “politics of freebies”.
However, in the manifesto for Assam legislative election, Congress promised 200 units of monthly electricity free to every household. Terming his party’s manifesto as the “people’s manifesto”, Rahul Gandhi said the manifesto contains the “aspirations of the people of Assam”.
“We are aware that the RSS and BJP are attacking diverse cultures of this nation. Attacking our languages, history, our way to thinking and our way of being. So this manifesto provides a guarantee that we will defend the idea of the state of Assam,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi added.
Apart from free electricity, the party also promised 2,000 rupees per month to housewives as monetary compensation for household chores. So, on one hand, the party says that it does not belives in the politics of freebies, while on the other hand, it is promising everything for free in Assam.
The grand old party is insulting the Ahom people and their self-respect by offering them freebies, while mimicking the same in West Bengal. Congress’ popularity has already declined among the Ahom people due to its opportunistic alliance with AIUDF, the party of illegal Muslim immigrants.

Badruddin Ajmal, who himself, along with his party, is perceived to harbour pro-infiltrator sentiments, is now the best friend of Congress in Assam. The Congress’ alliance with the AIUDF was necessitated for one sole reason – prevention from absolute decimation in the upcoming polls. Yet, Congress now stares at the prospect of being obliterated anyway, with greater proportions of humiliation no less.
The formula for the Congress and its partner AIUDF in Assam was simple – consolidate Muslim votes. Muslims constitute roughly 35 per cent of the state’s electorate. Although the consolidation of Muslim votes would have been fairly easy for the two parties, they also had another plan – to achieve the division of Hindu and indigenous votes in the state between itself and the BJP.
However, in what comes as bad news for Congress and AIUDF, ground reports suggest that the Hindus and indigenous tribes of Assam are solidly rallying behind the BJP.
TFI had reported last year itself that the alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF has led to an all-out rift in the Assam Congress leadership, with many senior leaders voicing their opposition to the move and also rightfully explaining how the proposed alliance will tremendously hurt the prospects of the Grand Old Party in the constituencies which are dominated by the indigenous Hindu population, where the BJP will surely sweep the slate clean. Senior Congress functionaries had also decided to write a letter to the Congress high command, seeking the removal of the party’s state president – Ripun Bora, who they continue to say has a tendency to take unilateral decisions.
The party is already getting unpopular among the Ahom people and by insulting their pride, it will surely be getting swept from all the constituencies where Hindus form a sizable chunk of the voter base.
