The Congress government in Rajasthan headed by CM Ashok Gehlot has given nod to the Adani Group to set up 5 solar projects worth Rs 50,000 crores. Moreover, according to former Congress member Shehzad Poonawala, the JSW group was planning to set up a solar-wind project worth Rs 60,000 crore and the state government was preparing to give some concessions to the Jindal owned company as well.

As soon as the news of the Congress government turning towards the private players reached the BJP offices, the party leaders took it as an opportunity to show the mirror to Congress President Rahul Gandhi who openly curses the industrialists such as Adani-Ambani as the symbols of crony capitalism.
“CONgress Govt in Rajasthan gives nod to ADANI GROUP to set up 5 solar projects with an investment of Rs 50,000 crore. CONgress alliance Govt in Maharashtra gives Dighi port to ADANI GROUP. It will invest ₹ 10,000 crore. “Hum Do, Hamare Do”, hai na #AndolanJivi @RahulGandhi?” tweeted Karnataka BJP leader CT Ravi.

Reported by TFI, it was Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra that recently finalised the handing over of stressed-out Dighi Port to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ). Interestingly, just like Rajasthan, Congress is an integral part of the government in Maharashtra along with Shiv Sena and NCP.

APSEZ has now completed 100 per cent acquisition of the Dighi Port Limited for Rs 705 crore. Until 2018, the port was facing insolvency proceedings in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The MVA-controlled Maharashtra Maritime Board has also granted concession rights to the Adani Group. Earlier, the Maharashtra Maritime Board, under the Maharashtra government, was tasked with Dighi Port’s administration.
Rahul Gandhi, the Congress scion whose entire armory of arguments against the NDA government rests on taking on the private industrialists and parading the rhetoric that ‘PM Modi has sold the country’ to his select friends, namely ‘Adani and Ambani’ is nowhere to be seen since the announcements came to light.
It is a lazy approach whilst being in opposition to take the anti-capitalistic stance when Rahul Gandhi well and truly knows that the growth story of any country is not complete without the active participation of the private sector.
The Gandhi-scion may go on abusing the Ambani-Adani duo as a symbol of supposed crony capitalism in India, but the reality is that when it comes to development, the Congress is totally reliant on the private sector it so enthusiastically likes to hate.
If Rahul Gandhi is a man of his words then he should immediately call his party leader Ashok Gehlot and tell him to let go of Adani or otherwise his rhetoric in the public will hold no weight.
