In contrast to the perception that the entirety of India is rising in protest against the three new revolutionary farm laws enacted by the Modi government, farmers across the country are now rallying to the National Capital to meet the Union Agriculture Minister to voice their support for the long-awaited and much-need reforms, which seek to liberalise India’s agricultural sector. In fact, going a step further, the farmers from across the country have also threatened to take to the streets in case the new laws are repealed by the Modi government.
A delegation of 29 farmers from Haryana met Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Saturday and handed over a “letter of support” to him for the three new laws. The delegation, led by Bharatiya Kisan Union’s (Mann) Haryana State leader Guni Prakash, submitted a “letter of support” to Mr Tomar on the farm laws passed by Parliament in September and demanded the government to continue with these legislations.“We will also protest if the government repeals the laws. We have given a memorandum to all districts,” Prakash said after the meeting.
Earlier, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar was called upon by farmers from Uttarakhand. They too voiced their intense support for the continuance of the three new farm laws. The Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Kailash Choudhary and the Uttarakhand Education Minister Arvind Pandey were also present at the meeting. The Agriculture Minister while talking to the media said that the farmers have understood the laws, expressed their views and supported it.
On Monday, 10 organisations of farmers from various states like Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Bihar and Haryana, associated with All India Kisan Coordination Committee called upon the Union Agriculture Minister and extended their support for the three farm laws which will revolutionize India’s farming sector.

In fact, TFI had exclusively reported earlier that a repeal of the new farm laws, which benefit farmer across the country, will invite massive protests, truly capturing the mood of the nation.
Across the nation, farmers have been longing for the agricultural sector to be opened up. Now, if the government were to succumb to the pressure of a few farmers from pampered states, it would definitely not auger well with a large number of farmers across the country. With farmers already threatening to protest against any repeal of the laws, those camping at Delhi’s borders will be well advised to pack their bags and go back to their home states.
