Hamid Ansari, the former Vice-President of India, said that the society has become a victim of Coronavirus and strident nationalism. According to the former VP of India, who has supported Islamist elements many times, Indian Nationalism is even more dangerous than the ongoing pandemic.
Ansari was speaking on the release of senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s latest book ‘The Battle of Belonging’ when he spewed venom against the state of Indian society, which, according to him, is moving towards cultural nationalism from civic nationalism.
“The Covid-19 as a pandemic is bad enough, but before it our society became a victim of two other pandemics — religiosity and strident nationalism. Religiosity is defined as extreme religious ardour, denoting exaggerated embodiment, involvement or zeal for certain aspects of religious activity enforced through social and even governmental pressure,” he said.
According to Ansari, “Records world over show that it at times takes the form of hatred as a tonic that inspires vengeance as a mass ideology. Some of it can be witnessed in our own land.”
Ansari is long-known for spewing venom against Indian nationalistic forces and he has also been alleged to be involved in many anti-national activities. Last year, the RAW officers asked for a detailed inquiry into his role in the issuance of fake visas, exactly why he failed to take appropriate actions when staff members in Tehran were being kidnapped at the behest of the Iranian government; and most importantly, the role he played in damaging R&AW’s operations in Tehran and other Gulf countries.
In May 1991, just a few months after Ansari’s posting in Tehran, a young personal assistant, Sandeep Kapoor, was kidnapped from Tehran airport by Iran’s intelligence men. He was tortured and drugged for three days before thrown on a lonely city road. Ansari did not pursue this matter with the Iran government, much to the discomfiture of the staff.
Ansari has a long history of colluding Islamist forces of Iran, Turkey as well as of the Arab world to weaken India’s interest and furthering the agenda of Islamic countries.
Even as the Vice President of India, from 2007-2017, Ansari continued pursuing his ideological agenda. In his last interview as VP, he mentioned that there is a growing sense of insecurity among the Muslims in India. He asserted the fact that the “ambience of acceptance” is now under siege. Hamid Ansari invoked intolerance and cow vigilantism and comments made by some BJP leaders regarding the Muslims in the Country. He also said that he had flagged the issue of intolerance with PM Modi, Home Minister, and other Cabinet Ministers.
Hamid Ansari is an ‘English Speaking Polished Gentleman’ who walks and talks in his diplomatic splendour and an accent he picked up on his many foreign tours but beneath the layers of pretence lies a devout Muslim stuck in the medieval ages. He is a Congress worker who needs to return the favours of the Party and the Family and a viciously divisive man who knows nothing but to invoke victimhood and ignite communal passions.
