Tapan Ghosh, the man who led Hindu reawakening in West Bengal, died of Coronavirus disease at the age of 67. A former RSS pracharak, Ghosh left the organization in 2007 to found Hindu Samhati- a group that works for the welfare of Hindus in West Bengal and is now spreading in Jharkhand, too.
An outspoken supporter of Hindutva, Tapan Ghosh rallied against Muslim appeasement politics of Communists and Trinamool Congress. He also successively raised the issue of fast-increasing illegal immigration and subsequent rise in Muslim population in the state, and the decline of the Hindu population.
Hindu Samhati (HS), under his leadership, raised the issue Islamic radicalism, ‘love jihad’ as well as organized ghar wapsi of converted Muslim families. Obituaries poured in from West Bengal’s who’s who for the popular leader who was known as Tapan Da among his followers and colleagues.

“Tapan Ghosh died this evening. He was one of the most dedicated soldiers fighting for Hindu unity and Sangathan in West Bengal. He gave his life to this cause, inspiring thousands through personal examples. He will always be remembered and provide constant inspiration. Om Shanti,” tweeted Swapan Dasgupta, a popular columnist and BJP leader.

It was for the tireless effort of lone warrior Tapan Ghosh that West Bengal is witnessing a saffron surge for the last few years. A state where the killing of Hindu leaders or BJP politicians is turning into a new normal under TMC government, Tapan Ghosh single-handedly took on political adversaries as well as radical Islamists. And it is for his effort that the BJP won 18 out of 42 seats in West Bengal in 2019 general election and is a major contender for the 2021 assembly election.
