Yesterday, the Parliament witnessed some eloquent speeches even as the Treasury benches debunked the opposition propaganda about the CAA and Delhi riots. In one of those well-articulated speeches, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi went hammer and tongs after the Congress.
During her speech, she set the record straight by bringing up Sonia Gandhi’s December 14 speech at Ramlila Maidan in which she had said that the fight against CAA was at a ‘do or die stage’ and a day later the Jamia violence incident took place.
In her fierce speech, she also brought up how the Shaheen Bagh roadblock was the cause of the Delhi riots. It must be noted that the Shaheen Bagh roadblock where several provocative, anti-Hindu remarks and supremacist Islamist remarks were made, witnessed attendance of Congress leaders like Mani Shankar Aiyar.
She said, “December 14 2019…see the footage of Ramlila Maida, Sonia Gandhi said ab aar par ki ladai,” and added that speeches made by other Gandhi scions- Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi, and Umar Khalid were also responsible for the Delhi riots.
She was however at her best while dealing with Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s remarks about the RSS and Delhi riots. Initiating the discussion on the Delhi riots, Chowdhury was his usual self when it came to making bizarre and controversial remarks.
He said that Delhi Police is one of the best-equipped, yet the violence continued for three days and added, “The Home Minister will have to explain.” He also tried to take a dig at PM Modi saying that he was in Ahmedabad hosting US President Donald Trump, while Delhi was witnessing violence.
But Adhir didn’t stop here, he went on to allege that RSS founder KB Hedgewar’s teacher BS Moonjie had met Mussolini and was inspired by him.

Responding to his outrageous allegations, Lekhi said, “Some people have a history of setting things ablaze. I have data which shows who was responsible whenever violence incidents took place in the country.”
She also cornered Congress over the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and said, “They talked of 1984 riots, I would like to tell them that they’ve forgotten that some accused are today on the position of CM. The violence was brought under control within 36 hrs which, if you look at in hindsight, was in the making for months.”
As for the allegations of Mussolini-RSS nexus, she was particularly unforgiving towards Chowdhury. Lekhi replied, “If you are going to allege that Mussolini was Hedgewar’s inspiration then let me remind you, the maternal grandfather of the person sitting behind you (Rahul Gandhi) worked in Mussolini’s army”.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury couldn’t have scored a bigger self-goal than bringing up Mussolini, something that triggered a sharp, witty and humiliating response from Meenakshi Lekhi. With this, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has strongly reaffirmed his image as the motormouth of the Congress.
