As the Indian Parliament passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), the international media started a campaign to defame the present regime. The amendment, which relaxes the rules of citizenship for the persecuted minorities of neighbouring countries- Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan- is applicable to all non-Muslim minorities because all three countries are de facto Islamic nations.
But, there was a widespread campaign against the amendment from the usual suspects, who painted it as anti-Muslim. Taking a dig at those opposing the amendment, Subramanian Swamy, senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP tweeted that, ‘the Hungarian PM has announced that the country will not accept Muslim immigrants. Any Howls please, he wrote sarcastically’.

In the comments, various users pointed out that Poland has already announced that they will accept Christian migrants, and Russian President Vladimir Putin had declared that his government will do whatever it takes, to protect the Christian minorities in the Middle East.
Swamy also tweeted about Putin’s concern over the plight of Christians in the Middle East. “It is interesting that now Putin has said that Russians have tears in their eyes when they see Christians being massacred by Muslims in Middle East! No howls?” he wrote.

Throughout Europe, a resurgence of Christian fundamentals has been witnessed in the last few years. Country after country is electing to anti-immigrant, native leaders, who could defend the nation from ‘invasion of Islam’.
The international media– NYT, WSJ, and Washington Post,-published articles and op-eds against the amendment, because, according to them, the Indian government ‘others’ the Muslim community through the act. The students from minority universities like AMU and Jamia Milia Islamia, also launched protest against the act. Even the opposition, including Congress party which had earlier supported citizenship to oppressed minorities in the neighbouring countries, have come out to oppose the amendment.
The Communist government of Kerala, supported by Congress-led opposition, passed a unanimous resolution against the amendment; the lone dissenter to the resolution was BJP MLA in the Kerala assembly. Even the parties like BSP, which calls them pro-Dalit, opposed the act, despite the fact that majority of the people to benefit from India’s humanitarian move, belong to the community.
The widespread protest by Muslim community, and the outrage from woke liberals, only makes their apathy towards the minorities of the Islamic nations more evident. And Swamy has asked an appropriate question, which will further trigger the woke liberals.
