RJD goons are planning to burn Bihar today and Nitish Kumar and his police are watching helplessly

The violence must be curbed

In a regressive attempt of minority appeasement, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) goons are out on the streets creating ruckus in the state by blocking highways, burning tyres and blocking trains in the name of anti-CAA protest. RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav had called bandh in support of the anti-CAA protesters and said, “Bihar will be closed tomorrow. So I appeal to the people for their support.”

The helplessness and inactivity of the state government headed by CM Nitish Kumar is depressing as he has not issued any statement condemning and warning the perpetrators of this violent bandh.

Only two days earlier, the left parties including CPI(M) and AISF had mocked the law and order of the state by blocking trains and roads. Now with RJD’s call, it is getting out of the hand for Nitish. AISF had stopped a train at Rajendra Nagar railway station in Patna to register their protest against CAA and NRC while in another incident, CPI(M) workers had blocked the railway tracks at Laheriasarai railway station during their demonstration against CAA as the Left had called for a bandh in the state on December 19 while the RJD had announced to observe Bihar bandh on December 21.

Today, RJD workers and supporters protested bare chest, sloganeering against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and central government in Darbhangha. The protesters blocked the highway by burning tyres and by stopping the vehicles while at Vaishali, the highway was blocked by the RJD workers with the help of buffaloes. Party supporters also protested at the railway line and disrupted train movement.

Spreading fear among the people, Tejaswi Yadav said the people’s documents often get washed away in floods in the state, and hence they cannot prove their identity if the NRC is implemented. “In Bihar, people’s documents flow away with floodwaters. How can they prove their identity,” said Yadav.

This is a desperate attempt by RJD to maintain its relevance in the state; with Lalu Yadav in jail, they have been losing political ground and now RJD goons are back in ransacking the law and order by forcing this bandh on the people. Frequent bandhs called by political parties in Bihar is distressing while violently forcing the people to shut businesses is deplorable. The JD(U) which had extended its support to the CAA, must follow the footsteps of the Yogi government in ensuring law and order of the state.
