Days after the ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ took over the reigns of Maharashtra in their hands with Uddhav Thackeray as Chief Minister, multiple reports are indicating as to how the new Shiv Sena led government in Maharashtra is stalling developmental work and reversing possibly all that which Devendra Fadnavis toiled for in the past five years.
As per reports, Uddhav Thackeray has also assured the NCP that all Maoists against whom cases have been lodged for inciting and effecting violence in Bhima Koregaon would be set free. This has raised concerns among many quarters as to how committed Shiv Sena is towards national security. The individuals who have been put behind bars in the Bhima Koregaon case are classic Hindu baiters and anti-nationals, and the Shiv Sena setting them free would set a terrible precedent for the party whose commitment towards ‘Hindutva’ has already been dented and is in question.
Now, another case of religious conversion has put the Uddhav led government in a spot. On 1st December, barely days after the new government was sworn-in, it has been reported that a group of three individuals— Gajendra Devnoor, Ajay Gautam and Amar Vadwav approached a gathering in Bhiwandi Nagar, Thane and tried to incite hatred against Hinduism and the Hindu way of life.
After spreading lies about Hinduism, the three arrived at their ultimate motive, and began persuading the crowd to convert to Christianity. They even stated that if the people would accept their offer, they would be handsomely rewarded. Sources indicate that although the police was in the know of the said incident, they did not take any action until the issue caught steam in the media.
With the BJP no longer in power, and the Shiv Sena now attempting to be perceived as a ‘secular’ force, the Christian missionaries have once again initiated their conversion programmes with renewed vigour. It is quite possible that the Sena-led government tried to put a lid over the incident by preventing the police from taking swift action. It must be remembered that the Shiv Sena has completely abandoned their Hindutva ideology only to get to power. As such, anti-Hindu activities are bound to be resuscitated in the state. The Congress and NCP meanwhile would be the happiest lot, as such incidents only consolidate their political supremacy over the Shiv Sena. As BJP government falls in the state, the Christian missionaries have begun to swarm in the state.
