Ever since the 2016 US elections delivered Trump Presidency, the Democrats are doing their best to steal the election by finding various ways to impeach President Trump.
Hillary Clinton led Democrats were confident of victory as they sought to dismiss the challenge posed by Trump and the opinion polls showed there was a negligible chance of a Trump Presidency. There were concerns amidst the Democrat camp that Trump wouldn’t accept the results and will move to discredit them.
However, the results sprung up a surprise and ironically, it’s the Democrats who are yet to come to terms with the results and are leaving no stone unturned to remove Trump from office.
It started with the alleged Russian collusion which was followed by the Kavanaugh hearing and then the Mueller Report. Every Democrat move backfired and exposed their smear campaign and with the upcoming US Presidential elections, the Democrats have come up with perhaps their last roll of dice as they seek to impeach Trump for his alleged threat to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy to coax him to investigate Democratic Presidential hopeful and ex-Vice President Joe Biden and his family.
No President ever has had to face such a smear campaign throughout his term as Trump has faced in his Presidency. His calls for impeachment began even before he assumed office as Democrats refused to accept the results.
While Trump’s conduct on social media lacks maturity but what has aired the Democrats the most is the fact that his voter base stands as a rock behind Trump as he seeks a second term. Trump has completed most of the major promises on which he was elected prompting the Republican voter base to rally behind Trump who won handsomely in the 2016 US elections. The Democrats remain a divided house and at present no Democrat contender looks fit to take on Trump except Tulsi Gabbard who unfortunately is trailing behind the likes of Sander, Biden and Warren who are radical socialists and will run the American economy to the ground.
The Democrats realise that Trump is fast moving towards a second term and won’t be able to defeat him electorally and hence, have stepped up their efforts to impeach him from his office and make him ineligible to run for any future election.
This time around at the centre of the controversy is the alleged phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskiy where the former has been alleged to coax Zelenskiy to investigate Biden and his son Hunter’s wrongdoings in Ukraine which would have given Trump vital ammunition to target the Democrats in case Biden wins the ticket to fight Trump in the 2020 US elections.
Initially, it seemed like Trump may not be found guilty as he released the transcripts even as Democrats wanted to believe that it was a quid pro quo. However, Trump said to the Ukraine President to do him a favour and look into Biden’s son’s corruption. The Democrats accuse Trump of withholding aid money to Ukraine to get a political benefit.
As the Democrats aggressively step up their investigation in the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives, more and more allegations and speculations are surfacing making the issue complicated as Trump gets increasingly more indefensible by the day.
While the Democrats might be successful in passing the impeachment motion in the House of Representatives, but the motion will have to be passed in the Republican-controlled Senate which is easier said than done. Trump enjoys immense popularity among the Republican voter base and it’s unlikely that the Republican Senators would move to impeach their Republican President.
The same was the case with Bill Clinton as the Monica Lewinsky scandal saw the House vote 228-206 to impeach Clinton for perjury, and 221-212 for obstruction of justice. The motion was sent to the Senate where after a six-week trial, Clinton was acquitted on both the counts and was able to save his Presidency.
However, an impeached Trump will prove to be a nightmare for the Democrats and will be far more ruthless in the 2020 elections and his angry social media posts are a testament to that.
Recently, Trump posted a video where Biden could be seen promising $1 billion to Ukraine if they fired the prosecutor investigating the ties of his son with a Ukrainian Gas Company. The heart of the matter lies in the fact that Biden’s son, Hunter Biden was appointed to the board of Ukrainian gas company, Burisma 2014, while his father was leading policy on Ukraine during the Obama.
If the links are proved that the father-son duo colluded, it would deal a damaging blow to the Democrat campaign for the 2020 elections and this would be a blow which they will not be able to recover from. Zelenskiy has followed through his promise made to Trump in the July 25 phone conversation as Ukraine’s new appointed prosecutor general, Ruslan Ryaboshapka is all set to investigate the Burisma case and whether Hunter Biden was involved in any wrongdoing or not.
The political atmosphere in the US is too polarized and Republicans see it as a simple warranted attack on corrupt Biden, and not a real reason to impeach the President of the USA, and with this Trump’s campaign might get stronger as the successive bids of impeaching Trump are looking like cases of witch-hunt and are likely to see the Republican voter base consolidate behind Trump and ensure a second term for him.
