Yesterday turned out to be a historic day in India’s post-independence era. In the media reports that followed, this issue formed the bulk of the narrative. However, Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s masterstroke of turning Pakistan Prime Minister’s residence into a wedding venue was somewhat ignored by the mainstream media. Taking a jibe at this move, Atul Mishra, Founder-CEO, tfipost.com, tweeted, “In the din that ensued after Modi-Shah’s Kashmir masterstroke, Imran Khan’s masterstroke of turning PM Residence into a marriage venue to generate additional revenues got buried.
Unfair!”

As per an India Today report, a wedding was carried out at the Pakistan Prime Minister’s house on August 3. Brigadier Waseem Iftikhar Cheema’s daughter Anam Waseema’s grand wedding ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s residence. This move triggered outrage at the social media with several social media users condemning this extravagant and unnecessary ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s residence. Pictures of the wedding ceremony invitation cards went viral on the internet. The wedding ceremony cards clearly mention the Prime Minister’s residence as the venue of the wedding.
Taking a dig at Pakistan PM, one of the social media users tweeted, “Did the PM serve drinks at this event? Start to turn the lights off at 930? Was he hired to be there and get his pictures taken? Did he offer to drive the groom to the venue? Was he waiting to open the car door when Brigadier sb arrived? So many questions.”

Another user questioned if the austerity drive is only for civilians. He stated, “Brigadier Waseem’s( PA to the PM of Pakistan) daughters wedding was held in the Prime Minister house.
What a shame???
Austerity drive only for civilians??”

This move has become a source of derision, especially because in 2018 Pakistan PM Imran Khan had promised something substantially different. At that time he had announced the establishment of Islamabad National University at Prime Minister’s House in order to promote higher education. After his victory in the general elections, he had said, “I will not live in the PM House and will convert it into an educational institution where common people have access.” After making a fake promise of showing austerity in his functioning as the Pakistan PM, Imran Khan has now mocked the civilians of Pakistan by literally turning his residence into a wedding venue.
