Anupam Kher responds to Hasan Minhaj’s comment on Kashmir

Ever since Article 370 of the constitution has been revoked, which gave the state of Jammu and Kashmir a special status; the liberals all over the world seem to have taken personal offence. They are blissfully unaware of the ground realities on the valley, and as has become their penchant, are just needlessly harping about like a blithering idiot. Now, actor Anupam Kher has called out to this sheer hypocrisy and enlightened the liberals of the state of affairs in the valley.

On the occasion of the Indian Independence Day, Hasan Minhaj decided to speak on the Kashmir issue in an effort to enlighten his viewers on the lack of “communication facilities” and the fact that they aren’t “independent”, since the revocation of Article 370.

Calling out to this very ignorance, actor Anupam Kher, a Kashmiri Pandit by ethnicity, has released a very powerful video on the state of matters in Jammu and Kashmir. Anupam Kher urged Hasan Minhaj to see it to understand the situation at hand.

Dear ⁦@hasanminhaj⁩ !! I enjoy your act. Feel happy that an India born is capturing great audiences. Saw your latest clip & concern about Kashmir. Would love you to see another truth about #Kashmir. This is in Hindi. Hope you understand it. Thanks.🙏 https://t.co/7ZkmdxwDou

— Anupam Kher (@AnupamPKher) August 16, 2019

Anupam Kher talks in detail about how; 26 years ago Kashmiri Pandits were displaced from their own homes in the valley. He talks in gruesome details of the incidents in 1989 when militants had terrorized the valley and massacred every individual who identified as an Indian. Countless Kashmiri Pandits, were brutally murdered and raped and the survivors were told to leave the valley. The central government had no control over the situation and was numbly observing the situation. The militants were announcing all over the state that Kashmir will soon be a part of Pakistan and those wanted to stay had to adopt Islam.

Thus, saving what little they had, the Kashmiri Pandits escaped the valley. Thereafter they were kept in deplorable conditions in which many perished due to extreme heat and snake bites. Their homes and temples back in the valley were meanwhile burnt.

Anupam Kher also talks about how the administration turned a blind eye towards the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits and hit out the so-called intellectuals who remain mum on the issue.

The worst part is that till today, the Kashmiri Pandits are waiting for their justice. Not one culprit has been punished for the atrocities they committed against the Kashmiri Pandits.

Minhaj’s ignorance of the ground realities in Kashmir however, is what makes his statements nonsensical. Referring the Article 370 as section 370, his rhetoric finds no mention of what the article is, how it was separating the Jammu and Kashmir citizens from the Indian citizens and what atrocities the people in Jammu and Kashmir, those who weren’t given the status of a citizen were suffering. Minhaj also didn’t feel the need to explain that the communication barriers were put up in the state on a temporary basis for a smooth abrogation of the article. Moreover, his rhetoric definitely didn’t examine the militancy situation in the state due to which these measures were being taken.

Strangely enough, Minhaj’s concern for the state of Jammu and Kashmir did not extent to the Ladakh region or its people, who are rejoicing on being granted the status of a separate Union Territory and even when as far as to call this independence day, their first.

Thus, all his absurd rhetoric had was an attempt to voice the liberals of the world, who without knowing any ground level facts are desperately trying to sympathize with the Jammu and Kashmir situation. As a result, what the viewers witnessed from Minhaj’s act was a rant riddled with factual inaccuracies.

The global liberal brigade, with whom Hasan Minhaj identifies with, have all taken up the Kashmir issue as their next crusade without an iota of knowledge about it. Jammu and Kashmir is being treated as their next agenda on their war against global conservatism. The liberal media platforms globally have been drawing parallels between the Kashmir issue and others such as the Palestine issue in a highly degrading manner, and these parallels convey how oblivious they are to the real situation.

What is most heart breaking is that the today, the likes of Hasan Minhaj dare to take to social media and speak about “government control” in the valley, when in fact, this control is exactly placed to prevent a repeat of the Kashmiri pundit massacre in 1989. The ignorant liberals believe that they can talk about Kashmiri sob stories, and completely overlook the militancy threat in the state.

Nestled in their safety zone, in order to write or preach about certain issues, what is foremost important is to garner the ground level information on the scenario, from a holistic perspective. Instead, what the liberals are now immersed in doing is picking up tidbits of information from one another and linking them to completely different phenomena so as to appear wise. The same attitude towards Jammu and Kashmir is demonstrative of the directionless, incoherent herd the global liberal brigade has come to symbolize in an era where they have lost electoral battle and in the ideology sphere being trumped by the conservative movement across the globe.
