Mahua Moitra, the new darling of the left-liberal establishment is becoming a very good example of all that is wrong with this cabal. As her speech received very good attention among elitist anti-BJP sections, every journalist/anchor of the establishment, like Karan Thapar and Barkha Dutt, seems enthusiastic to interview her. The new superstar of the left is being nurtured and promoted by the left ecosystem but it will be difficult for her to stand public scrutiny especially when she has now appeared sympathetic to the terrorist that killed Indian soldiers in Pulwama in a suicide bombing.

In one such interview with Karan Thapar, Moitra made many hypocritical and ignorant remarks. She seems to follow the “gareeb headmaster ka beta” template of the left-liberal brigade when it comes to referring to terrorists. Mahua Moitra addressed the Pulwama suicide bomber, Ali Ahmed Dar as a “20 year old boy” in the interview with Thapar. The ‘learned’ Member of Parliament also confused Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir with Balakot (the breeding ground of terrorists in Pakistan which India bombed in airstrikes) in her interview, revealing her lack of knowledge topic she is supposed to be speaking about.
This normalization of terrorists by referring to them as anything but terrorists is the hallmark of the left-liberal cabal. The dangerous precedent has many followers including Barkha Dutt and now Mahua Moitra has also joined the list. A radical terrorist who killed more than 40 Indian soldiers is only a “20 year old boy” for Mahua Mitra.
The terrorist Mahua Moitra referred to as a mere “20 year old boy” is school dropout radical Islamist, and misogynist. In a pre-recorded video before he carried out the suicide attack, Dar is seen urging women to wear veils and asking his family, friends and relatives “to celebrate his martyrdom for Islam” the way they celebrate weddings. Probably referring to efforts made by the government to develop J&K to wean people away from the ideology of separatists, the terrorist says, “The war that they cannot win with force, they are trying to win by compromising your beliefs. They want to mislead you from the etiquettes of Islam. They want to mislead you from the path of Islam by luring you with worldly pleasures.”
Karan Thapar, who has the tendency to be the devil’s advocate whenever he interviews a person from right wing, endorsed every claim made by Mahua Moitra and did not ask a single hard-hitting question to the TMC MP in the half hour interview where she commented on the terrorist attack in Pulwama. This tells us reality of left-liberal media establishment where the interviewer ‘collaborates’ with the interviewee as long as their views and motives are the same. The motive of this interview was obviously to argue that the country is slipping into a dark age under BJP rule.
In the interview, Moitra repeats the claim that majority of people of the country are being ‘fooled’ by BJP, Modi and media. She corroborates the views of elitist establishment that majority of voters are ‘stupid’ as they voted for BJP. Her comments on the terrorist attack signified similar ignorance when she confused Pulwama with Balakot and called the trivialised a suicide bombing by calling the terrorist a “20 year old boy”.
Moitra, who is 44 years old had left for the US along with her family at an early age of 15. She studied economics and mathematics at the Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, USA, and went on to work as an investment banker at the JP Morgan, eventually rising to the post of company vice-president. She came back to India only in 2008 to look for career in politics and joined the Congress. However, she later switched sides and joined the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress. Mahua Moitra is not aware of the ‘ground realities’ of the country and made sweeping remarks about India and the Indian electorate based on ‘assumptions’ and unsubstantiated claims which she may credit to her orientalist teachings. Mahua Moitra is so obsessed with western politique that she also may have plagiarised her, much celebrated by leftist media among other doomsday scholars, bombastic speech from an article by Martin Longman published in Washington Monthly on January 31, 2017.
The problem with the left-liberal establishment of the country is that they are uprooted from the ground reality. In the last five years they have time and again concocted narratives of doom to turn voters in the favour of political parties of their choice. With utter disregard for the electorate’s choices, most of them still desperately aim to weave apocalyptic narratives for political gains, when not in power, with heavy but loosely used words like ‘fascism’ and ‘fascist’. But their blatant disregard for national security has reached wild levels and a collective tendency to sympathise with Islamists and terrorists prevails among them for the sake of petty political gains.
