In what further exposes the elitist, as well as the archaic mindset of the Congress party, leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury openly insulted PM Modi by comparing him to “gandi naali” in the Lok Sabha today.
It all began when Pratap Chandra Sarangi, BJP MP from Balasore, moved forward the motion of thanks. In response to the same, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, elevated to the post of leader of Congress party in the Lok Sabha, initially received applause for suggesting that the brave pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan should be awarded and that his iconic moustache should be declared as ‘national moustache’.

He quickly moved on to attacking PM Modi, daring the Modi government to take action against Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. Chowdhury said, “Did you manage to catch anybody in 2G and coal allocation scam? Did you manage to send Sonia Gandhiji and Rahul Gandhiji behind the bars? You came to power by calling them thieves, then how are they sitting in Parliament? Why are not they in jail.”

In reply to his statements, BJP MP from Balasore and Minister of State, Pratap Chandra Sarangi, advised the Opposition to learn from the actions of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had lauded Indira Gandhi for her actions during the 1971 Indo Pak War. He even quoted the examples of Swami Vivekananda to prove why PM Modi’s actions are completely necessary in today’s times.
In response to the same, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “….He [PM Modi] is just not yours. PM Modi is also our Prime Minister. He is the leader of your party, so it is natural to praise him, but it shouldn’t surpass the reality. It is unacceptable that his name adulterates the legacy of Narendra Nath Dutta [Swami Vivekananda].”
To this, Pratap Chandra Sarangi shot back at him, saying, “At least we didn’t hold this notion like you that India is Indira and Indira is India.” It was at this moment that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury mentioned, “Kahan Maa Ganga aur Kahan Gandi Naali” (How can Mother Ganga be compared with a dirty drain, basically comparing Indira Gandhi’s legacy with that of Narendra Modi)

Though extremely bad in taste, this atrocious statement wasn’t entirely unexpected. Since 2002, Narendra Modi has been the favorite punching bag for the left-liberal intelligentsia, who have showered him with the choicest of abuses in his road from being the CM of Gujarat to the PM of India. Who can forget the way Mani Shankar Aiyar mocked his humble roots as a tea seller in order to undermine his personality, which only helped in propelling Narendra Modi to the post of PM in 2014.
Even after the Balakot airstrikes, the Congress seemed to have learnt nothing from their mistakes and continued to abuse, even to the extent that their own President Rahul Gandhi went to the extent of addressing dreaded terrorists like Masood Azhar as ‘Masood Azhar Ji’. From gutter rat to Gangu Teli, to Bhasmasur, to even titles like the ‘Trader of Death’, you name it and PM Modi has faced it all.

Now going a step further, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury referred to PM Modi as a ‘dirty drain’, which in turn only exposes the elitist mindset of Congress party, which is unable to accept the overwhelming mandate PM Modi has received for his work in 2019 elections. Someone had aptly said, Congress is a gift that keeps on giving.
