The left-liberals leave no stone unturned when it comes to protecting minorities or their interests, with Muslims at the forefront. In striking contrast to this, the pioneer of the liberal elitists, Shashi Tharoor has come out declaring that Pakistan is synonymous to all Muslims. In effect, if one talks about Pakistan, they are referring to the Indian Muslims. So according to Shashi Tharoor, in order to protect the interests of the Indian Muslims, one has to adopt the same attitude towards Pakistan.
In light of the Sri Lankan attacks, the Lankan officials, in an attempt to explain their ignorance towards Indian intelligence reports have claimed that they felt that India is trying to instigate Colombo against Islamabad by proposing counter-terror operations. Before the attacks, Indian intelligence agencies had picked up information of the same and had warned Sri Lanka of the likelihood of the attacks. The Lankan government had not paid heed to those reports and thus witnessed the biggest terror attacks on the island since their civil war. Suicide bombers killed at least 253 people and injured some 500 at churches and top-end hotels across Sri Lanka. India was especially distraught with the attack on the innocents as they felt this dastardly event could have been prevented. India had provided very specific inputs to Lankan security about the attacks, including names of perpetrators, their modus operandi and movement of terrorists and places, which were targeted on Easter Sunday.
Anonymous sources told The Economic Times that Sri Lanka does not want to be dragged into what it claims, an “India-led alliance” against Pakistan and felt that India is raising a bogey against Islamabad by claiming that Lanka could face suicide attacks. Moreover, the Lankan security apparatus was also apparently casual with the Indian alert as they did not comprehend any threat from jihadists after defeating the LTTE.
Ph.D. holder Shashi Tharoor read the report and reached the conclusion that people being referred by the Sri Lankan officials against whom India wanted to create a rift against, were Indian Muslims. Somehow, he understood them claiming “India wanted to instigate Colombo against Islamabad” as “India wanted to instigate Colombo against Indian Muslims”.
Referring to the report of economic times, he tweeted, “This is sad. Shows that the BJP government’s record of Muslim-baiting & bigotry at home has totally undermined its credibility with our neighbours on any issue involving Muslims. Major repairs must be done by India’s next Govt.”

According to his absurd tweet, Shashi Tharoor thinks that “Muslim-baiting at home” and India’s attempts to isolate Pak are the same since both are “issues involving Muslims”. Supposing himself as a pioneer of equality and secularism, Tharoor has strangely equated Pakistan with Indian Muslims. In one stroke, Tharoor has excluded the entire sect of Muslims from the Indian population altogether. First, he misinterpreted the article and then through his words, he is portraying a wrong picture of his current government. Not only is he communalizing the Muslims, but he is making them feel insecure in their own country.
It is to be noted; India provided accurate intelligence to the neighboring island country. But due to its own internal politics and pseudo-intellectuals, India is being blamed for the lack of credibility, instead of the country that refused to take the intelligence seriously. Hundreds of people have died because of this and yet Tharoor finds a way to blame India.
Perhaps Shashi Tharoor has forgotten the difference between Indian Muslims and Pakistan, for he is definitely viewing them to mean the same. India is against Pakistan, along with more than half of the world’s superpowers because of its involvement in global terrorism. That certainly does not mean that the Indian government is against every Muslim citizen living in the country. In the current government’s effort to effectively deal with terrorism, they had sent accurate reports to Sri Lanka to help prevent the attack and yet, India is the one with the credibility problem.
