The left liberal journalist, Sagarika Ghose, in her recent tweet defended Rahul Gandhi on his British citizenship issue by attacking BJP. The tweet by the journalist read, “Interesting that @BJP4India rakes up @RahulGandhi alleged British citizenship when so many of its own diehard supporters are citizens and residents of the United States.” Sagarika Ghose is the wife of Rajdeep Sardesai, who is a hardcore criticiser of the BJP and PM Modi as well. Sagarika is also known to be biased against PM Modi. There have been various occasions on which Ghose has mocked PM Modi and the BJP.

Ghose is known for writing inane things and has made statements without any factual background. In her statement, she has compared ‘supporters’ with someone who is ‘contesting elections’. A supporter need not be an Indian to support the Prime Minster of India, however it is necessary for an individual to hold an Indian citizenship if he is contesting and voting in the Indian elections. It doesn’t come as a surprise as Ghose, also has a history of spreading fake news and propaganda.
The twitter army replied to her tweet, about the nationality of Rahul Gandhi, by questioning her understanding of the electoral processes in India. They asked if she had any knowledge about the difference between a supporter and an election candidate. The Constitution doesn’t give any right to an individual holding citizenship of another country apart from India, to either contest or vote in the elections. Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, is alleged of carrying a British citizenship and has been summoned by the Supreme Court.

While Ghose is seen in the forefront of the liberal brigade, she is known for spreading communal enmity through her tweets. In 2017, Ghose had tweeted against the Government of India, blaming the government for the communal violence in the country and had later deleted the post with an apology. She has already formed an image of being one of the most irresponsible journalists of India.
While the liberal journalists do not leave a chance to mock the BJP and PM Modi, they fail to guide the members of their fraternity on checking facts before making politically incorrect statements. The tweet by Sagarika Ghose shows how uninformed the journalist is. It shows that in order to attack the BJP, she failed to go through proper information and context of the issue. The tweet makes no sense whatsoever. It is therefore important to let such liberal journalists be aware of the fact that mindless arguments on social media do not help to establish agendas against a government or a party dedicated towards working for the country.
