In what can only be described as a massive self-goal by the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi landed in a controversy as he attacked the press conference by Amit Shah and PM Modi. While he was trying to mock PM Modi for not taking questions at the press briefing, the Gandhi Scion seems to have gotten carried away. He went on to allege that journalists were prevented from entering the press conference of PM Modi and the BJP president Amit Shah.
In a particularly embarrassing moment for the grand old party, its supremo stated, “I was told that the doors have been locked to prevent journalists who want to enter. I asked Randeep ji to send some journalists from our side. He said he cannot as doors are locked.” The Congress chief ended up admitting that there are certain journalists on the side of the Congress and the Congress was even planning to use them in order to use them as its proxies during the BJP presser. This means that there are certain journalists which are either Congress agents or at least deeply sympathetic towards the Congress.
Rahul Gandhi’s statements have brought Congress under the scanner. The mainstream media has been unduly critical of PM Modi ever since he stormed to power in 2014. Rahul Gandhi’s statement makes it amply clear why a sizeable portion of the mainstream media loves to hate PM Modi. The fact remains that they are “on the side” of the Congress. Presumably for ideological reasons, the mainstream media and the Congress find a common enemy in the Prime Minister which explains the relentless manner in which the Congress and certain journalists have been criticizing PM Modi.
Rahul Gandhi’s statements appear that much more suspicious because the mainstream media has always been seen as sympathetic to the Congress and inherently anti-right wing and anti-Modi. The reasons for the bonhomie between the Congress and the mainstream media are something that we can only speculate upon. Congress president having admitted to the proximity between certain journalists and the grand old party is probably best equipped to explain the reasons for such awkward closeness. It is important to note here that Rahul Gandhi has always been vocal about why PM Modi did not hold any press conference. Last year, he even challenged PM Modi to hold one. It is possible that the Congress president had readied journalists “on the side of the Congress” to act as party proxies if and when Prime Minister Modi holds a press briefing. This seems more like a long-standing conspiracy between the pro-Congress journalists and Rahul Gandhi.
