Rahul Gandhi works on for post-election winning. It has been 5 years since Rahul Gandhi adopted the Jagdishpur Village in Amethi. In 2014, the Congress President adopted the village under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana when the general elections took place. The villagers have been waiting for a visit from their leader since. The last time Rahul Gandhi was seen in the village was when he adopted it.
In 2014, Rahul Gandhi attacked PM Modi on his development plans. He mentioned that developing one state or region of the country doesn’t imply that the nation will also be developed in a similar pattern. He said, “Meri constituency mein 700 se zyada gaon hain. Ek gaon ko model banane se Hindustan ke 6.5 lakh gaon nahi badalne waale. (My constituency has more than 750 villages. Developing one village as a model will not change the fate of 6.5 lakh villages in India.)” The Congress President was amusingly never seen in the village after making this statement. It is well known that empty vessels make the most noise. The Congress President had further added that PM Modi lacked financial prudence and clarity in the implementation of the schemes. Well, it’s easy to raise fingers, but the Congress President should give his NYAY scheme a good look now, and contemplate the statements he made.
Disappointing their supporters and the people of the country is Congress’s forte. The villagers of Jagdishpur are saddened by the fact that they were used as election gimmicks and were really never cared for by their leader. The village head, Jitendra Yadav, recently joined BJP out of sheer frustration. He said that the villagers hoped that Rahul Gandhi would dedicate himself to transforming Jagdishpur and fulfil the promises he made to the people of the village and constituency as a whole. However to their disappointment the MP from Amethi failed to even visit the village after the general elections.
Yadav said, “Our village has stood by the Rahul Gandhi family for decades. We have played a role in ensuring Rahul Gandhi’s repeated victories from here. But when we went to see him with a request for a community hall, he didn’t even spare 30 seconds for us. Our request was dumped in a bag,”. He also mentioned that when he couldn’t work for a single village, how will the Shehzada of Congress work for the 700 villages that he is responsible for as Member of Parliament. He further added, “If our MP can’t listen to the people of one village, how will he listen to the people of the entire segment? He may be the Congress president but he has not been the people’s president.”
One of the villagers said that they had high hopes from Rahul, but he did not bother to spend the funds from the MPLAD scheme. The villagers face the brunt of wild animals that destroy their crop, while the Congress President is busy pleasing minorities in Wayanad.
On the other hand, Smriti Irani, the BJP candidate from Amethi, visited the village more often than Rahul did. A village elder said, “While Rahul Gandhi abandoned his adopted village despite winning from Amethi in 2014, Smriti Irani kept visiting us. Last time when Rahul Gandhi’s winning margins reduced, it was a warning to him, but clearly he did not pay heed.” The villagers said they have benefitted from the BJP government’s initiatives like the Ujjwala scheme, under which free cooking gas connections have been provided to the poor, and Ayushmaan Bharat, a health insurance scheme.
It is said that promises are made to be broken, and Rahul Gandhi works on this principle post-elections. The village waited for their “Pseudo-messiah” for five years, but did not see him after he won the seat from Amethi in 2014. Literacy still remains a concern for the villagers, but they have no support from their MP to work towards it. It is clear that Rahul Gandhi has finally left Amethi to its own devices and is busy making advances in Wayanad. It is no wonder that he had to find a safe seat in Wayanad since he has neglected Amethi completely. The Congress provides the country with a candidate for the Prime Minister’s seat but he couldn’t fulfil the promises he made to his own constituencies, how will he cater to a billion hopes and desires. Rahul Gandhi after a decade of political experience is unfit to be the leader of a constituency, forget about the country.
