The country celebrated the victory of Prime Minister Modi and the BJP-led NDA coalition, which won seats in different regions of the country with a landmark sweep across the nation. Here is a quick look at the might of the results that established BJP as the single largest party in many regions across the nation.
Hindi Heartland:
The Hindi heartland, which comprised of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh Haryana and Rajasthan have given all their love and support to the Prime Minister and BJP. In most of the states of the Hindi heartland, BJP was able to secure around 50% and more percentage of vote shares. States like MP where it lost in assembly elections, the saffron party now stands with 28 seats out of 29 seats. A similar picture can be seen in Rajasthan, where no national party except the BJP could secure a seat. Haryana, the first time in history saw the BJP win all the 10 seats and this proved that ousting Congress party was the choice of its people. With 11 out of 14 seats in Jharkhand and 17 out of 40 seats in Bihar, BJP has won the hearts of the Hindi speaking majority.
West Bengal and Orissa:
Apprehensions about the performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the two states of West Bengal and Odisha had been in the news for quite some time. The results, however, showed that BJP performed exceptionally well in both the states. While TMC and BJD only managed to secure majority seats in their own state, they combined stop the saffron wave couldn’t stop the BJP, as the party secured 27 out of 63 seats in the region.
South India:
The southern region which is known as bastion of the regional parties saw the tables turned. With 51% vote share in Karnataka and 20% of votes in Telangana, BJP secured 25 out of 28 seats in former and 4 out of 17 seats in latter. The saffron party even in the south stands as the single largest national party to secure a total of 29 seats and 40% of the total share of votes.
Northeast region:
The project of expanding to the Northeastern region of the country by the BJP was embarked upon in 2014 itself, but this time it was in a full-fledged working mode as the party had a victory sweep in the region. Like South India, Northeast region also has strong regional parties but this time they were no match the NaMo tsunami. With all the seats being captured by BJP in Tripura and 9 out of 14 seats in Assam, BJP holds a 35% of vote share in the Northeast and is the single largest party to secure such a mandate.
Northern states:
BJP had a major victory with all seats coming under BJP in Uttarakhand in the north. A clean sweep in Himachal was recorded by BJP where it took away all the 4 seats in the state. Giving a tough fight to the National Conference, BJP emerged with the highest share of votes in Jammu and Kashmir. It is commendable to see that despite the tensions and violence that marred J&K polls, BJP managed to secure a landmark 46% of the vote share.
It is “kamal” everywhere. It is not a myth but a reality now. States like Bengal where BJP gave the TMC a run for its money was a distant dream even in 2014 elections. As it is said, some dreams do come true, if you work for it. Unbeatable strategies and unparalleled perseverance of the BJP party members and vision of the leaders is what made a 300+ mandate possible.
